really a beautiful place to visit for a cost which is almost nothing.we never expected that there will be a waterfall there, even though a small one, the most interesting and adventurous part is the way you get to the fall as it needs climbing as well as trekking plus support from the people with whom you are going.some of these adventurous trips are really very difficult to express through texting you should personally feel it to know what is what.Really a memorable waterfall as well a excellent experience.Just 50 KM from Gaborone.

Mogonye Gorge Excursion was a wonderful experience for me even as a local. We were there for work as a big group and had a tourist guide who was so polite and easy to work with, informative also patient. I recommend the place to anyone who'd like to go as it is very clean and well kept, I look forward to camping there in the winter time.

Very interesting site. A great hike up the gorge, lots of interesting stuff to see. I would suggest tht if you go you wear sturdy footwear, there are quite a lot of loose rocks on the pathway. When you go there is a choice of either walking in from the gatehouse or driving in to the start of the trail. The walk would be about 6k and quite slow going in the heat. We drove in , luckily on a 4 wheel drive, I would not recommend the drive unless you had great clearance and 4 wheel drive. Worth the effort. The ebntry fee was 50 P each adult.

We did a bit of trekking a bit of climbing using ropes...and we had a nice time at the camping spot where we had a braai.

Our local kids nature group spent an afternoon at the gorge and really enjoyed it. It was about an hour round trip from the trail head - perfect for kids. They had a lot of fun climbing on the rocks. We could have spent longer up there picnicking.

The entrance gate is an impressive, newly built structure - the gate house was staffed and contained information on the gorge. We called 73.057.669 to make a reservation with the guide ahead of time. Our guide rode in our car with us to the trail head and was very knowledgeable and professional. She made sure we knew which plants not to touch. A 4wd was needed to drive all the way to the trail head. Another group who arrived before us did not have a 4wd, so they drove as far as they could and then walked the rest of the way.

There are also camping facilities, but we did not see them.

This was a great afternoon outing and we were happy to support the community initiative.

My wife and I recently did the guided hike of the main Mogonye Gorge. I agree with many of the sentiments expressed by the previous commenter. Considering how short the hike was and the pretty basic knowledge of the guide (which largely entitled reciting myths, though she did describe some plants and trees and the names of some of the pools), we didn't feel like the 75 pula per person price for a Botswana resident was worth it. If you've lived in Gabs for a while and are desperate for something to do for a couple of hours (the drive from the gate to the beginning of the hike and back takes as long as the hike), then go for it...but this isn't something I would take friends visiting from overseas to see.

We heard about Mogonye Gorge from a coworker in Gaborone after we told him about a recent trip to Moremi Gorge. Being much closer to Gaborone, we thought it would be a nice day trip but we had no idea what to expect. We drove to Mogonye and followed the signs to Mmamotshwane Gorge. When we arrived (at 10 am on a Sunday), the gate was closed despite a sign that announced the hours as 8 to 5 Monday through Friday. We waited for a bit, tried to find one of the other gorges (without avail--the signs stopped and we couldn't figure out dirt road from driveway), and returned to the other gorge just before 11. A gal walked by and another man waiting spoke to her in Setswana and she said she'd take us back to the Gorge (according to the man). We piled into our car and she lead us down a rocky dirt road toward the Gorge (our Rav 4 could handle it but we would have preferred a 4x4, though the group after us set out in a Mercedes sedan..). When we got into the gorge, we realized that Ke was a guide and worked for the gorge. She showed us which trees not to touch (rashes), showed us the water pools, and explained the significance of the site to the locals. As a fair precaution: the hike is rocky and you have to scale some rock faces using a rope (coordination and strength are recommended). The drive took us 25 and the hike was probably 45 minutes out and back.

In total, there are 7 gorges in Mogonye, 3 are public. If you're interested in all 3, definitely call ahead and ask for a guide or you probably won't find them. I don't think you're allowed to hike without a guide, so you'll probably want to call ahead to make sure someone can take you (and that they're open). To see just Mmamotshwane, plan about 3 hours roundtrip from Gaborone. If you're going to make the trip to Mogonye, we recommend figuring out how to see all of the gorges to make it the most worthwhile.
