The roots tour was very interesting in its self, however, I was somewhat baffled by the selling of pre purchased school supplies for the local school as I was sure the same books were being sold many times over. that said, when in Africa you...More

I travelled by boat with a friend on an organised excursion upriver 28 November. When we arrived at the village we were met by a guide who explained the background to the tour in front of a large anti slavery statue and an old rusty...More

This was our second visit to Albreda and Juffureh, this time with 3 children 12-15. We booked through Bushwacker Tours in the Senegambia strip who were cheaper than the Thomas Cook tour by about 30%, and really well organised. Overall it is a fascinating and...More

The journey here was long but it was worthwhile. A hugely thought provoking, inspiration place. Very informative, and very beautiful.

A "Roots" trip was the one essential thing we wanted to do on our first Gambia trip and we took the advice of regular visitors by supporting a local agent rather than using our Tour Operator. We chose Kawsu Tours (close to our Kotu hotel)...More

There's not a lot to see, but it's the history you are here for and it is quite emotional to see the horrors of slavery as depicted in the museum and listening to the guide. My only complaint, is that too many children use these...More

I am now booked :-) to go to Jufureh with 'Rave about Africa Group' from the UK for the Roots Festival May 2016. I am bringing a group of friends who have never been to the Gambia before. One of them has said they were told its rainy season in May is this true?
