A Wealth of Knowledge
Jul. 2019 • Friends
Besides a lot of beautiful bead necklaces, bracelets, and many other artifacts for sale, the real value in the store is the owner's expertise and love for Ghanaian beading. If you get a chance to visit and are lucky enough to meet Kati, you will be glad you came. Ask her about the lifecycles of humans told through the beads they wear, from birth to death, in Ghana. Very cool and informative. Highly recommended.

beading and buying

Kati Torda is an expert on (West African) beads. If you like beads i would definitely suggest to visit the shop. Beside necklaces, bracelets there are many more african artifacts. And if you stay a few days, she organizes workshops too.

if you want to experience some local art and meet an interesting person - go
Feb. 2019 • Couples
Kati is an amazing lady, with incredible drive and talent. The minute you enter the shop, you are surrounded by beautiful jewelry, creative art and willingness to share with you the knowledge amassed in the 25+ years of living in Ghana. Do spend some time looking around, sifting in the books (especially the one written by Kati) and asking questions. We had fascinating time and learned a lot. Prices are very reasonable and you can also learn how to make those special highly prized beads. Recommended!!

Wonderful store and staff
Oct. 2018 • Solo
I have been to Ghana two times to study beadmaking. Both times Kati Torda has open up her arms and knowledge for me! Kati have a deep understanding of the tradition of beads in Ghana and she is more than willing to share that knowledge with you if you ask. She also know every beadmaker worth of knowing, so her source to beads is wast! You always meet interesting people in her shop and the beads and jewellery sold there is stunning! Her staff is really wonderful to! She has tought me a lot about beads and let me meet wonderful beadmakers! I highly recommend her and her shop Sun Trade Beads if you love African beads and jewellery!

Terrible Company With Dishonest Owner
Mar. 2018 • Business
I had contacted Kati Torda who is the owner of Sun Trade beads to get some bracelets made for my company. I explained to her that I had my own cord that I wanted to use, she just needed to supply the beads and tie the bracelets. She said she could do it and we agreed on a price for an initial order of 1000 bracelets. We worked together for about 6 months trying to get the beads and design right. One of the main problems is she was terrible at responding to emails. I would send her numerous emails all of the time and not get a response until 1 month later. Then when she did respond, she wouldn't answer any of my questions. Then all of a sudden one day she told me she was not going to finish making the bracelets, even though we were so close to completion. I asked her why she was quitting and she gave me a bunch of excuses and lies. She said she was too busy traveling, retiring and overseeing the bead production. But she has employees that work for her who could have done this. Afterwards I asked her if she could recommend somebody else to take over and help me get the bracelets made. She recommended some shady person who told me he could help me and he even went and got my sample bracelets and cord, then after about 1 week I never heard from this person again. I asked Kati to contact this person and help me find out what's going on because she recommended him and she refused. I then asked her to recommend somebody else and she said she would not. All I was ever trying to do was buy beads and pay someone to make the bracelets. It would have given a local bead maker a good amount of business and extra income. She eventually told me that my business was not welcome in Ghana and that I should look to buy beads elsewhere. She never gave me any explanations or reasons for any of this. From day one she appeared to have racist sentiments towards Americans. She would frequently use Anti-American slurs towards me. And this is a member of the Ghana Bead Society. One of their missions is to promote Ghanian beads. I have never dealt with a more difficult and dishonest person in my life. On top of that I feel like 6 months of my time was wasted. I honestly don't know how Sun Trade is still in business with an owner like this.

Beads, beads, beads and beautiful jewelry made from beads. Beading lessons as well. One of the best places to visit for gifts for those back home or for gifts to yourself.

nice handcrafted staff
Feb. 2018 • Couples
Kati is a professional handcraft. She has nice hand made necklaces, bracelets and anything else you can imagine made of ceramics and pearls. She also produces paints and traditional staff. Even if you just want to look around, you will find friendly staff and a cup of coffee :-)

No Strings Attached
Jan. 2018 • Friends
Well, actually, you can get beads strung or unstrung and what an incredible choice! Our visit to this Aladdin’s cave of necklaces and other curios was prompted by a prior visit to a Jamestown exhibition called Whispers of Beads. My wife and daughter were in their element in this unique Accra emporium. I always like to see a TripAdvisor endorsement displayed [in this case on the entrance door]in part because it prompts me to submit a review. Hobbyist or bead connoisseur will love this place. Lots of free parking as well. Recommended.

Handcrafted Jewellery
Aug. 2017 • Friends
We happened to be across the road buying material so wandered over for a look. If you think the handcrafted jewellery is at all expensive, you should take the time to watch them threading the beads by hand. A lovely little shop with delightful staff, one of pieces and a few other locally made things as well. Well worth a visit!
