interesting exhibits, and the guide (if he is around) gives friendly helpful comments. the surrounding need a brisk cleaning and improved presentation, but then again, they have on average 10 visitors per week... so be lenient, go there you will learn a lot about the natural and cultural history of Guinea.

allow about 30 minutes or 1 hr if yo are a fanatic. ticket taker acted as guide with passable English. Few descriptions in English. No period dates on descriptions French or English. Cross section of life items from 18th century. Lots of statues on grounds. 3 goft shops with all local made items-none from China. Not too much to do so take the time.

Museum contains a very small collection of artifacts. Signage is OK but only in French. Took 10 minutes to get lights turned on. Some interesting statues presumably from colonial days in courtyard. Very friendly staff member helped me visit but must speak French.

Was shown around the museum by Famata. It was small but really interesting with artifacts representing all the different tribal groups in Guinea . Cost 10000francs
With a receipt . There is a man doing traditional weaving you can watch .

Like most National Museums in Western Africa, this is a very poor collection of random artifacts... not much interest, I don't think one will learn much, but it can be worth a 5-10min visit since it's pretty much the only cultural attraction in Conakry.
On of the displays showed broken pieces of glass bottles, and the description mentionned these were glass bottles used to store liquids...

Guinea has a rich tradition of art, masks, fetishs etc. Youmight not know that after visiting here. Don't expect much. There are a few pieces in the mueseum, but nothing that really reflects greatly on the culture. People working there are very nice and I certainly don't begrudge the few dollars.
I think if you use it as an excuse to drive around Conakry rather than a destination, your better off.
There is an artisan shop on site that turns out some great wood sculpture. Don't miss it as it's on the grounds but not connected to the mueseum.

It's good. I was starting to think Guinea was gonna bore me. . But.. I found their artwork and I think I like their artworks. And the Port.. they also have a lot of fishes.. of different varieties.. so it's really nice.

With so much great art in Guinea, the few artifacts of the museum barely scratch the surface. The museum has plenty of space but most of it is used for storage. A beautiful bronze lion is hidden in a corner near the crafts workshops and is used only to dry rags on it...
