African markets are often a must-see but they often come with the burden of being aggressively pestered to buy and the inherent danger of being robed. Bamako City centre market is different. It has all the bustle of a typical subsaharan market without the liabilities. Dont get me wrong--You will be given offers but the touts know their limits and... More

Wonderful traditional market in the middle of the city. Crowded, full of busy people, you can find whatever you can imagine, from the head of a donkey for spells, to beautiful fabrics and clothing. Food, handcrafts, tools...just walk around.

Basically somewhere to go and get ripped off. Not worth it. Everyone wants to make a buck off any foreigners. Goshhh..,. I'd avoid it. You can buy your soveniers from the stores. Not worth the hassle.

I love African markets -- you never know who you might meet or what you might find around the next corner. That said, the Bamako central market is not for anyone who dislikes crowds or hangers-on. Two hours is my limit and I always go on Sunday, at a cooler time of day, with plenty of water and head covering,... More

If you want a pure African shopping experience, that's the place. Is not recommended with children.Very crowded place, it remembers me some market in Istanbul, or afro-arab movies. So is an interesting experience if you realy love Africa. Don't miss the artisans village inside (only accompanied by a trustful local, otherwise you will be cheated ).

In the market you can find gold and silver but many other things in leather, musical instruments, textiles among other things, great place to bring with you a little of Mali

This is a very interesting place. There you can find all interesting features of Mali. I especially recommend to visit that part of the market, where they sell copies of traditional works. There you can find sculptures and masks of high quality.

I love this market! I never see the same thing twice -- which may be a bit of a disadvantage. I often cannot return to stores I have enjoyed on previous visits. But that's okay, because the same things are sold at many shops. I like to go just to see what's new (esp. in the area of textiles).
