Soothing place of fresh air. Gorgeous flowers. Latest renovation brought more cleanliness. Great statues. You learn about Mauritius history. Also near the Natural History Museum

In the middle ( ? ) of Port Louis a lovely little oasis of green, giving a feeling of calm and tranquility. Great meeting place or just for a break.

A green and shady place in the city center.
Unfortunately, also neglected and full of trash.
Also you can meet the womens of doubtful reputation.
Nevertheless, it is worth taking a moment on the bench and rest from the heat.

It used to be a joke among locals that this place is where prostitutes pick up clients (or vice-versa). The prostitutes were tolerated; while not exactly welcome, they were not much of a disturbance.

Over the past decade or so however there has been a shift towards the presence of drug dealers and users rather than sex workers. This is a much more menacing category of unwanted visitors, who won't hesitate to hassle or threaten passers-by to get some money.

I noted this evolution throughout the decade or so I spent working in Port Louis. By the end of that decade, I was actively avoiding the gardens to stay clear of unpleasant encounters (which is not easy as it is found in a strategic part of the city). As for the garden itself there is not much to do or see. Until the late 2000s it could be a nice place to relax and enjoy some protection from the heat, but years of neglect and invasion by drug users mean even that is no longer possible.

I wouldn't recommend anybody to spare time to visit the garden. It is a place you walk through when forced to by circumstances rather than because you want or need to.

From the outside, it is a nice garden with plenty of trees and benches to sit on, a place we thought we could relax a bit from the hustle of the city. Once inside, we found out that it was not really well-maintained, dirty as it was. Disappointing!

Jardin Compagnie or in english Company Garden earned the nickname of Jardin de l'enfoncement- why? because this area used to be marshland and the land was reclaimed.
So when the garden was first created the soil was still soft and you foot will dig into the ground thus earning the nickname of Jardin de l'enfoncement.
The garden used to have a really bad reputation as it was a den for prostitutes, the police patrols it regularly during the day now, and it is not a problem anymore.

It is not a very large park and it is enclosed. You can enter through one of the four gates that are locked at 5 pm. The gum trees (?) are very tall and leafy, with huge trunks and roots, as well as lianas. Walking in the alleys, you feel in a different quiet, serene world. There are some benches you can stop at and watch people go by, just normal people going about their business, a very old colonial fountain serves as a reminder of times gone by.

We took an opportunity to have another stroll at Company Garden.

We took photos in front of the banyan trees with our children, something we have done since our first visit to the island when they were much younger.

Port Louis can be hectic, here it is calmer.

Company Garden is a decent little park in the middle of the city, but there's nothing all that special about it. There are some statues and some cool trees, and I suppose if you're stuck in the city, it's a nice place to go to (kind of) relax. Still kind of noisy from the motos and other traffic going by. Not all that tranquil of a garden/park.
