The old market built at the beginning of the 20th century burned a few years ago and was rebuilt in its old style. It is a beautiful piece of architecture. Lots of products can be found inside, especially fresh ones, like fruits, vegetables, spices and fish. Some butchers have small shops around it. The place is clean. But the vendors... More

This place e near my office. I used to go to buy cashew nut and some other fruits for my lunch and tea time. Founded more than one handred years ago this place preserves the architectural aspects which confers a postcard of the city. If you came to Maputo never miss to visit this place.

I have seen cleaner markets yet there was a variety and an atmosphere that was truly unique. The flies and unwashed hands did prevent me from buying anything but I would not have wanted to miss this.

I love this market because you can find all the basics. Because it is a busy place things are usually fresh. I always visit this place to buy the organic honey when I am in Maputo. The fruits were also good. There is nothing exotic though so don't expect to satisfy a fantasy. All regular market produce is available here.

This bustling market showcases Maputo produce as well as some souvenirs. In any other place, it would be a fun place to visit. Although I'd still suggest that you visit, you can't really take pictures and the locals are just not that friendly. Visit with caution.

This historical building is a "must visit". After a big fire, it was recently refurbished and got a upgraded. One must be very careful... petty theft is a major problem. The place and surroundings need a good clean up!!!! Make sure you park in gated the parking lot. Leave valuables at home and keep cellphones and wallets well secured.

I do not understand why tour guides find it necessary to show tourists the local produce and meat market. I like produce as much as the next guy but I do feel compelled to see it in every city I visit. This one is no different than the other 100 I have looked at and it smells just as bad!

The lychee I wanted to buy were suddenly double price when they see a foreigner. I would not buy anything over there, as a tourist. its better... More
