The train station is ranked as one of the most beautiful in the world (third), once you visit you will see why. It is starkly different to the other modern buildings in town. Nice coffee and pastry shop to stop and relax.

The Maputo Central Train Station, or CFM (Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique) as written under the clock on the 51 m high central dome of the station, is quite possibly the most beautiful monument in Maputo and a fine example of colonial era architecture in Africa. The platforms are also decorated and well maintained. On the platform, which is on the left as you enter, there was a long line of large photos of stations with some resemblance built in the rest of the world. Definitely worth a visit and gives the opportunity to take interesting photos.

Station built on early 1900’s and still a very busy station with train travel relatively cheap in Mozambique. Only a few platforms but madly busy. Couple of the original locomotives on display in the station. Along the platforms there are some great historical posters of the station’s construction and development. Also has great views of the Maputo suspension bring, especially at night.

The Maputo Central Train Station, or CFM (Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique) is quite possibly the most beautiful monument in Maputo and a fine example of colonial era architecture. The glory days of the station have long gone but the platforms are o decorated with photo's of the past and they are clean and well maintained.
Definitely worth a visit to see 2 old steam loco's and an opportunity to take interesting photos.

Visited today on a Sunday morning. Some guy with a yellow jacket tried to be my your guide. Probably best to just ignore him and go inside yourself.

There was a nicely air conditioned bar/cafe and a museum that is a must visit (50MT). Lots of pictures and history about the stations and how it was planned and executed. The museum is a must and should be no longer than 45 min.

Outside of the station was pretty busy with local folks, but no need to worry. The station was safe and nobody bothered me.

A must check out. Visited in Feb 2020

Still looks beautiful from outside, and clearly well-maintained. I enjoyed the display banners timeline since it was built. I was surprised that it was voted by a few media as one of the top train stations globally!

Walked to station from our cruise ship, it was about 10-15 flat walk. If security gate was open it could have been less than 5 minutes. Relaxed with a cold beer ($2.00). Clean restrooms which they will unlock for you.

A bit of a surprise as it’s deemed in top train stations in the world (aesthetics and architecture etc). We popped by on a walking tour, but anyone can go and look around. There is a restaurant on site too...

I had a lovely experience in the central train station, we got a chance to be submerged with the locals and how being in city feels like.
