Historical place with a nice restaurant

Definitely a must visit when in Maputo - and now there is even a nice restaurant in the building. If you are lucky you even see a train.

Went for a city tour of Maputo and this was one of the to go destination. Very interesting to see old looking trains that are still functional. Great for photo-taking. Do not try to get drinks on a Sunday night as the place was all quiet and dark and a little dodgy (drove past it on Sunday night).

We visited the Old Train Station, which gives an idea of the old times, when Maputo was the place to connect the sea with the Hinterland. There is not much activity here, although we were told that ther eis still 1-2 trains per day departing. Inside you find an old coffee shop, which has a good range of food & drinks... More

This is a terrific little place that has been envisioned and assembled with real thought and creativity. It's a pleasant surprise in a city that struggles with infrastructure.

I visited the Maputo Central Train Station in Maputo together with my family on 28 December. This is such a wonderful monument, elegant and full of history! However, we were disappointed to observe that a monument full of culture and glory was closed to the public.... But to reach the station we have to walk throug filth and dirt left... More

It was pretty hot but a good shaded railway platform had nice wicker chairs. The chair cushions were stained and need good clean. The beer was nice and cold and 4 of us ate a tasty octopus seafood rice a bit like a risotto but the rice was slightly undercooked. See the first tiny steam train in Maputo that is... More

This 20th Century Railway station is in an essentially 19th Century Second Empire style. It is an elegant building currently undergoing a renovation. The building was clearly meant to be a city focal point and has some beautiful plaster work and a lovely clock. The interior has large platforms with a long building down the centre featuring wooden French doors... More

I was visiting the pub and restaurant which is located in Maputo Central Train station, which is also known as CFM train station (tip for foreigners - easy to tell taxi drivers), It was Internations get together. And the pub and atmosphere was superb. Safe Parking inside. The down side is that it closes 5.30pm evening. Train station is nice... More

It is sad to witness the Maputo Central Train Station from the exterior. The structure was beautifully built however from the surrounding and maintenance it is deteriorating fast. Sad to see such a landmark being neglected.

The train station is being repaired and refreshed. What a difference a new coat of paint makes! Truly a tourist sight to behold. Good job Mozambique government!
