We came here during midweek and had a lovely experience. We paid 80.00R per person plus 10.00R for the car as an entrance fee. It's a 10km drive to the viewpoint and is suitable for all vehicles. The views are stunning and are worth seeing both during sunset and just after sunrise. Camping costs 170.00R per person if you fancy... More

It is hard not use superlatives when describing the amazing landscapes of Namibia. I would have given the Fish River Canyon the highest mark, but when you have seen the Grand Canyon, you could surmise right away that the Fish River is missing the golden/orange hues that the Grand is endowed with. But the history of the canyon yields some... More

You don't expect to find one of the world's biggest canyons in this part of the world. The long dusty drive reveals a massive winding valley in the earth's crust where millions of years of erosion has worn away. Far below (more visible than the Grand Canyon) the Fish river snakes its way through the gorge. Stouthearts can climb down... More

We visited the canyon today. Dirt road from Grinau to the Canyon Roadhouse in superb condition. From there to the entrance to the Hobas camp and the main viewpoint the road deteriorates. Once in the camp, however, the 10 km road to the view point in in horrendously bad condition. We tried to follow the road further around but it... More

One of the biggest canyons in the world (they say, second after Colorado-USA). Dry, remote, steep canyon. One of the tourist spots in Namibia. It´s really impressive! The visit consists mainly in getting to different view points on the top of the canyon. It´s part of the huge Ai-Ais/Richtersveld Transfrontier Park. There are 2 areas in the Fish River Canyon... This would rank excellent save for the very limited information leaflets which don't even include a map. One has to memorise the map in the office. That with the lack of road signage makes it very easy to miss some good viewpoints. There are good information boards to read at the main viewpoint. The canyon itself is really quite something... It's nice to know that this beautiful area is remaining unspoilt due to being a national park. The roads are rough, - hard on vehicles as mostly untarred . Nice place for walks , but you need decent footwear. Enjoy the scenery . Interesting information boards at Fish River viewpoint- especially if you are interested in geology/ rock formation also... I enjoyed great MTB rides in the Hobas and Ais-Ais areas of the park. The roads and tracks are a little bit corrugated, so a soft-tail bike is an advantage, but the roads are quiet, the sky is wide and there is peace and quiet and beauty that just takes your breath away... more than the uphills do!

We were looking forward to the Fish River Canyon as one of the highlights on our four-country tour of Southern Africa, but it fell short of expectations. The comparison with the Grand Canyon is inevitable, but it fell far, far short. We drove from the entrance to the first, main viewing point, then walked to the right for perhaps a... More
