Huge positivity dedication and devotion to the welfare of the Chimpanzee at Tacugama and their carers. Most of all education about the habitat of the Chimpanzees and how at risk their forests are due to deforestation. So much more than a sanctuary. Meeting the Chimps and being introduced to their characters and how the Sanctuary integrates newly rescued Chimps was inspirational. Our guides were excellent and passionate and so informative.

Visiting Tacugama is one of the best experiences in Sierra Leone, and it's conveniently one of the most accessible as well. The tour of the sanctuary is led by informative guides. It's amazing to see the chimps interact close up. While the tour is the main attraction, there are a lot of other activities! The hikes nearby are great and staying overnight in the eco-lodges is very special. If you're lucky, your trip might overlap with one of their fundraising events including yoga retreats, jazz nights, movie nights - be sure to check their calendar before you book!

Hiking, spending the night in a lodge in the forest and visiting the sanctuary were great experiences. The food was fresh and tasty. Would definitely recommend for a week end gateway!

What a lovely experience. Beautiful space of land. Chimps look very cared for, which made the trip exceptionally pleasant, even though sad due to a lot of their traumatic pasts. My family and I went at lunch time, meaning we were just in time for feeding - which was also lovely!
The tour itself was wonderful. Very passionate and informative tour guide Noah, explained to us that this was a Sanctuary and NOT a zoo, an element that I really found important. We were taken by Noah and Emmanuel around the Sanctuary, into the rainforest very carefully and safely, and this my family appreciated too.

It is honestly an amazing place, and I would have loved to stay at the yoga retreat etc. for a couple of days, but sadly our trip in Sierria Leone is coming to an end.

I would recommend Tacugama’s chimp sanctuary to anyone and everyone, and would love to return when I am here again.

I stayed at an eco-lodge and got to enjoy the chimpanzees. The staff was friendly and helpful. I knew a lot about these intelligent primates from reading about them over the years. But being here with them was quite experience.

Had a fantastic time at Tocugama! Toured the facility, learned about the chimpanzees and all the great work the people at the sanctuary do every day. Climbed to the top of the lookout tower and got an awesome view of the entire surrounding areas. We stayed the night and had one of the best meals during our entire trip. Was fun listening to the birds and chimpanzees off our back patio with a beer. The next morning we had breakfast before going on a guided hike through the forest, visiting the dam and caves. Such a great place and a must visit if coming to Salone!

We had an amazing stay in one of the eco lodges (Lucy). The chimpanzee sanctuary is just a short drive away from Freetown but it makes you feel like you're in the middle of the jungle. There's nothing like waking up to the sound of the forest and the chimpanzees.

We had a wonderful stay in one of the eco lodges. It is remarkable how peaceful and quiet this place is considering its close proximity to Freetown (20-30min drive). You really feel like spending the night in the middle of the jungle. Walking up to the sounds of birds and excited chimps (guess they also like breakfast). The food was good and the staff even nicer. We would highly recommend taking one of the hiking trips with a ranger. Walking to one of the peaks we could clearly see the impact of deforestation on the top, and the importance of conservation as you can see the protected area of tacugama versus the non protected area.

If you are a nature lover and want to spend some peaceful and quiet time while supporting a good cause, you can simply not skip tacugama!

Heaven on earth! I stayed in an ecolodge for a long weekend surrounded by jungle sounds. During the day I hiked with the rangers and I took a sanctuary tour. The sanctuary has 107 rescued chimpanzees and you get to see most of them living in huge semi-wild enclosures. The lodges are beautiful and you can have several meals with good quality food in the bbq-area. I can recommend this wonderful place to everybody who loves nature and some quality time.

Located in a wonderful piece of jungle, close to Freetown but away from its hustle and bustle.
Tacugama is a Chimpanzee sanctuary with a wide variation of conservation initiatives together with local communities.
I stayed in one of their wonderful ecolodges, was toured around the sanctuary and could admire the chimps living their life and minding their own business.
The vegetarian food they serve is outstanding, a good reason to come back!
Great respect for the founders & staff for taking excellent care of the Chimpanzees and me as well!
