the dam was built in 1937 by British for the Egyptian govenment to avoid the nile flood. it is about 4 km, you can walk and have some beautiful photos and enjoy the view of the White Nile. There is a small park with trees where you can park your car and eat fried fish.

South to Khartoum you can find there a big fishes. There is green places with crowded trees to sit under, perfect place to go for a picnic with family and friends.

You get to see fishing live; buy it from them and then we travelled to the near by township, had them cooked... More

Quite a distance from Khartoum and the road are not that good. Once there, you have to pay a small amount to cross the dam bridge to reach the picnic spot. After the crossing the bridge, have to go a bit off-roading to reach the beach area for picnic. No proper picnic area and no proper stall nearby. Only make-shift... More

About 1 hour 15 from Khartoum, into the country side. Watch the fishermen catch the fish, buy it fresh and eat it there if you choose. wander over the dam and watche the multitudes of fish jumping up the fish ladder. A good outing to escape from the monotony of Khartoum.

Living and working in Sudan, I get the chance to visit Jebel Aulia as often as I like. Approx 50kms south of central Khartoum, the best day to go is Friday as the roads are much qieter than the rest of the week. It's eas to miss the signpost, so the marker is to turn right off the main road... More

This dam is located 1.5 hours drive from Khartoum. It is great for family picnic and also fishing. Don't forget to bring in your fishing rod. However, be cautioned that photography is strictly prohibited at the dam area as it is classified as a high security area. You can get arrested by the plain-clothed policemen for taking photographs.

I don't understand how this can be listed as an attraction. The view of the nile is no better than you get in Khartoum, and bar a few market stalls, there isn't anything else there. Save yourself an afternoon and have tea on the banks of the nile in Khartoum instead.
