Very wide golden beach that has a perimeter of palm trees and takes 5 minutes to walk from the main road to the shore. Mostly clean sand when beginning the walk, then becomes more trashy as the sea gets closer. Great pictures can be made here with the waves crashing and abandoned boats in the background, also reminds me of why I came to the beach in the first instance. You'd be taking a chance with swimming out far as the currents look like they could be a handful. On our visit it was quiet with the odd local and raw in atmosphere, so definitely wouldn't feel comfortable having a sunbathing session here with no security or many societies in place. Apparently can be busy on evening and weekends. Worthwhile place to have a brief fling with Lome's main beach...

Call Muniru 0022891032198 and he will meet you at the beach with his horses. It's great there. Endless sandy beach to gallop.

The beach is fairly pretty since it is the African coast in Togo. The port is busy so you will see lots of big ships out in the water. It is near the road so you will her a lot of motorcycles near by. I was not sure the water was safe for swimming so just walked around. It seems to be ok for the locals for a day on the beach but not sure it is safe for tourists to be there for very long.

We were told not to go alone on the beach. There were some armed policemen though. Some kids offered small arabic very beautiful horses for a ride, which we did not accept. The sea is too dangerous to swim, we were told. Nearby is a kind of toursit market which was closed (Sunday).

I am writing more or less the same report for Lomé as for Cotonou. Based on my experience, after traveling to 100 countries and maybe 200 cities.. I found Lomé and Contonou to be one of the most boring cities I have ever visited. For the 3 days I was in Lomé I struggled to even find anything to eat, unless I waa prepared to go into a 5 star hotel/restaurant
Also it is not possible/recommended to swim in the sea in Lomé.
Other than that I just want to say, a a British passport holder it was really easy to get a visa on the ghana border. I paid 10000 cfa, and had to show my yellow fever certificate. They also asked me what I was doing there and where I was staying. All very simple. When I then went to Benin by road I was able to come back into Togo on the first visa I got from Ghana/Togo border
On the Ghana/Togo border I paid 3000 cfa (probably double of what I should have) to get dropped off at my hotel
As I was in a rush to get to Benin, I didn't bargain much, but these were the prices I was quoted and I couldn't get them to go any lower:
* seat in a shared taxi to Benin border from Lome - 1000 cfa: 4000 cfa if you want it all to yourself (where's the discount??)
* private taxi to take you from Lomé to Cotonou - 20,000 cfa. 40,000 cfa for return trip (where's the discount in that?)
* moto to get around city centre 200-300 cfa
I changed some ghana currency to cfa and got very good rates at the border.
People are struggling so much that they asked me if they can have the remains of almost empty bottled water.
I found the place generally safe.
Again, based on my experience avoid Lomé and Cotonou. Better so stay home and watch tv or read a book or surf the net.

If you like to be close to the ocean and hear it's sound and see the waves, then the beach is the place for you. If you like to take sun baths and take a swim, I would be more careful. The beach if pretty dirty and waves are big. There are a lot of shells that you can collect with kids, if you have them. I noticed an artistic representation of something that was built out of shells and car tyres. There were also 4 flags: Russia, France, Iran and Togo. Countries that have atomic weapon and Togo?..

Lome beach is a long stretch of beachside. You can play (or watch others play) football at the beach. There are also a couple of bars where you can have beer by the beach side. Please be careful when you are at the beach. Foreigners are usually targets of robberies, or so the security guides at the hotel warned. The beach is worth visiting though.

This is where locals go to exercise and relax. Others just spend the day squatting here. Swimming is not an option. The color of the sand is deep yellow which is beautiful against the deep blue ocean. Some parts of the beach are horribly polluted with rubbish, others are spotless and have benches under palm trees and beach restaurants. The nicer parts of the beach may be enjoyable for visitors, other parts should be avoided.
