This area was once a thriving center for bargaining, eating and meeting other travelers; these days it's become quiet due to the popularity of the nearby Thamel district.

I wandered around for a while, but didn't really find anything exceptionally interesting about it. There are plenty of little shops, hotels and places to eat, but there was nothing that particularly drew me in.

The place has become a parking lot for the most. But a great place to find fun restaurants, cafes, shops and tattoo parlours. A nice place to hang out if the traffic situation is taken care of.

As I was in Durbar Square thought I'd pop down and visit this street that had a bit of a reputation! Well - it was actually nothing special, just a few shops and restaurants and bars! if you are in the area, it is a bit of history, but I would not make a special trip just to see it... More

Like other streets, nothing special. We walked twice - nothing impressive, like other streets in center

Walked and puttered around the area. It's not the tourist center that it used to be, but it also is not derelict. Had a decent meal mid-day to mid-afternoon at a small upstairs place that I cannot remember. What I do remember is that it was somewhat more popular with 20-ish local guys than with western tourists. This may not... More

I've heard the stories of Freak Street from decades ago, and it was interesting to see. We were there at night, so there wasn't much going on. The streets were empty at the time. It's still an interesting piece of Kathmandu history and the influx of people into the city.

I first went to Nepal 27 years ago and visited Freak Street then - it was interesting and lived up to it's reputation and name. I guess over time things change - it is now just another commercial street for tourists to buy lots of stuff - with not much freakiness to it - I guess everyone needs to make... More

I first stayed in Freakstreet years ago and have come back many times since. It ;lacks all the facilities of Thamel, but it also lacks the touts and the tourists. Its still got lots to cater to your needs but its just not as in your face as Thamel and there are lots more locals around. Its also right on... More

The souvenir shops and restaurants lined up here and attached to Durbar Sq. Its scale is way smaller than Thamel. Drop by here for a coffee or snacks when your feet need a rest.
