When we arrived Tan was waiting for us on the jetty. Hang on I thought this is going to be different. We were ushered into her outdoor dining room and we tried a beautiful lemon drink with some herbs from the garden done tempura style.

Then we wandered around the garden looking and smelling different herbs that Tan would be demonstrating in the class.

Next it was a full on demonstration of four different dishes with Tan showing how easy it was to cook each dish. After each dish was cooked we got to taste each one.

Next was our turn. We have twin 13 year old boys and Tam concentrated helping them whilst other in her family assisted the rest of the group. We then ate our feast at the outdoor dining table again with Tam introducing exotic fruits for desert. We were suitably full once we had finsihed.

We would not hesitate in recommending Amita Thai Cooking Class to anyone as you are going to someone's home... Tam we'll be back.

I endorse all the positive comments to date: an exceptionally well-organised set-up, from pick up at my private address, the fascinating boat ride through the klongs to get to the delightful suburban villa location, and the way that every aspect of the learning experience had been carefully thought through. There was probably more demonstration than actual doing, and the helpful way in which all the ingredients were lined-up in precisely measured portions meant all the students really do is add them to the pot in the right area and stir whilst trying to give the impression we know what we're doing. But the whole experience is great fun, ending with an excellent substantial dinner on the veranda - and most importantly it works so well because of Tam's patience and delightful personality.

My daughter and I had a wonderful experience with Tam at her Amita Cooking School. We were the only participants but we are confident that your experience will be equally as good. From the pick up arrangements, the venue, the food and all the trimmings that make any experience special was all here. Tam and her 'family' of staff were delightful, patient and wonderful hosts. We were travelling to Hua Hin that afternoon and unable to eat all that we had cooked so Tam and the team packed it up for us in 'travel proof' containers for us to enjoy that evening. Thankyou Tam for a great morning. We would recommend without a doubt and would definitely return. Oh, and the food was divine!

I took a Thai cooking class (love Thai food) Sunday morning 2 weeks ago. I was picked up at my hotel and driven to a boat pier on the river, then taken to house on the river (after 20 mins or so on the boat). Apparently an are where it used to be the old capital of Thailand. You feel like you're quite a ways away from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. The house is surrounded with a fantastic herb garden. Tam, the instructor and owner of house, gave us a tour and introduced all herbs that are typical to Thai cuisine.
Tam cooked few typical Thai dishes for us, explaining the history, the ingredients, etc. Then we were provided all the ingredients to cook all the dishes ourselves. At the end we sat on the veranda (by the river, under lovely shaded area) and what we prepared. It was a fantastic experience. At the end, we were then taken back to our hotels. Thanks Tam for a great experience - I'll do it again next time I'm Bangkok.

This was not just a Thai cooking class, it was an amazing experience. Amita (AKA - Tam) shares not only her beautiful garden but also her traditions and amazing cooking skills which have been passed down from generation to generation. I learned more than I could of ever imagined, not just about the dishes we were cooking that day but also about how to make herbs last longer, health benefits of ingredients, how to use ingredients in other recipies, about Thai traditions, and it goes on and on. The entire experience is perfectly organized, clean, the decor is inspiring and Tam is just an absolute delight to speak with. I would recommend this to any person of any age or background. Next time I am in Bangkok this will be the first thing on my list of to-do's. This was the highlight of my time in Bangkok!

Amita thai cooking is a great professional (but very personal) experience. From pick up at the hotel, the speedboat along the river and through the canals to "old" Bangkok and the arrival at Tam's personal home with very well set up cooking and instruction area this was an experience. Meet by Tam, who also instructs, we were made welcome with a drink and snacks. We then walked the gardens as Tam explained (with a delightful sense of humor) the various herbs and vegetables. Then into a demonstration of thai cooking followed by us preparing the same dishes. (see pictures). Tam and her assistants made the cooking easy and her friendly approach and sense of humor made this a fun event. It may not be the cheapest cooking class but you get an experience you will not forget. http://www.amitathaicooking.com/
