A couple of reviews have said it isn't clear why the model is here. As if historic Thai Kings should be expected to justify themselves to a modern audience... Some of the model shows signs of wear, which I've no doubt is to be expected after years of being rained on - so I wonder how much of the detail of the model Is original....?

At first glance this model lacks the glamour of its gold encrusted neighbours but it is worth looking at the beautiful detail of the model. Attention to detail is amazing!

A nice little model

Having been to the real Angkor Wat, I can’t decide if this amazing little model in Bangkok’s Grand Palace should be seen before or after the real thing.
For before, the model is impressive and certainly has a huge amount of detail, and it might just convince a few people to see the real thing. For after, Angkor Wat’s attraction is its immense size and the history you can feel as you walk around the complex – perhaps some of this is diminished if you have studied a scale model beforehand? While it is lovely, I don’t think the model does justice to the real thing, but it is a nice reminder of your memories if you have already visited the famous Cambodian temple.
At the end of the day, the mini Angkor Wat is a very detailed model and adds value to a visit to the Grand Palace (which is already a pretty amazing place).

Very nice

This is a small scale model of Cambodia's Angkor Wat temple complex. It's located inside the Grand Palace. It was made during the time of King Rama IV so the Thai people could see other sights of Thailand without leaving Bangkok. Cambodia was part of Thailand until King Rama V ceded Cambodia to France for the purpose of maintaining Siam independence.

Not sure why this is a tourist attraction

Yes it is a very precise replica of Angkor wat in Cambodia but aside from that it is nothing to get excited about. The King of Thailand at the time commissioned someone to have this made for him because he thought it was a beautiful monument. Whilst id agree that the REAL AGNKOR WAT IN CAMBODIA is beautiful this replica tribute is equivalent to snapping a photograph or picture to capture a memory of the place. Except when you're King, a photo won't do so you ask someone to build you a perfect little replica.

It's cool for what it is and if you're visiting the Grand Palace have a look but this shouldn't be on anyone's bucket list.

Go to Siem Reap... Now that's something to talk about

You have to see the real thing as any imitation is never going to work. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery then this is the most sincere INSULT I have ever seen. It just happens to be part of a much bigger attraction

This miniature-sized Angkor Wat complex model is pretty cool, but I'm not quite sure why it's here--the life-sized complex is in Cambodia! I would have liked some background info--was Cambodia part of Thailand at the time it was built, etc.

Not a site in itself, on the way to the Emerald Budhha temple you will see it.

This model is located on the side of the Emerald Buddha temple, which in itself is located in the middle of the Grand Palace, and is not a site in itself, but rather viewed when walking to the Emerald Buddha temple which is thehighlight of the grand palace visit. On the way to the temple you will see it.
There is not much to see, and the model is not big.
There is a tunnel underneath the model which can be crossed for good luck.

A brief history of this Mini Angkor Wat

The reason that the miniature of Angkor wat have been presented here because during the reign of Rama King IV or year 1851 - 1868, the territory of Thailand during that period also covered Cambodia or Khmer empire as its colony. The king had his vision and his project to display and re-build the stunning of stone monument in the kingdom for his people to admire the uniqueness of Khmer art. But, he realized later that this project wasn't worth for due to the resource and the huge scale of the building.

So, he decided to only display the masterpiece of stone monument as a miniature which is "Angkor Wat" because of its hardship when building and its delicacy of carving sculptures as we can't find in anywhere.

This is the reason why there is a miniature of Angkor Wat in Grand palace

A rather tacky model of an amazing temple.

Angkor Wat is absolutely amazing, and you should definitely visit it while in Cambodia.
This odd model of the temple is rather tacky and I still don't understand why it was put in the middle of the Grand Palace's grounds.

A Mini Version of the Real Angkor Wat... in Bangkok

This mini version can be found in the Temple of Emerald Buddha, within the compound of the Grand Palace in Bangkok though. Quite 'magnificent' though and its details are great, considering that it is a model of the real Angkor Wat in Siam Reap, Cambodia.
