High end, hand crafted, and uniquely designed furniture can be purchased in this extensive craft village. Don't expect bargains.

I very seldom give such a low rating. But this unfortunately has to be the first. If you are frequent traveler to Thailand, you would know what I mean unless when we visited it so happened to be dead quiet. We were told that it is a low season right after the Songkran festival. There were hardly any people around... More

The craftsmanship in this village is excellent. Beautiful wood pieces, from huge to small. They also pack and ship home, if you have to have it! Be prepared to walk because there are many shops. Of course, you can always stop for a drink and start up again!

Baan Tawai Village is definitely worth a visit if you like Thai art and handicrafts, and furniture. There were so many shops to browse and bargain hunting, and give yourself a couple of hours at least.

This is the furniture/handicrafts village non plus ultra for Northern Thailand. Most of the stuff you see in night markets anywhere in Thailand is from this area.Furniture/souvenirs/wood/lights/lamps you name it they make it.Do discuss the price but take time and stroll around.Again either go early or late after the tour buses.

In the interest of full disclosure, I must tell you that I live in Chiang Mai. OK, I've bought some good, well-built furniture here. Home accessories, too. The prices are actually quite reasonable considering the quality. Bargaining politely is acceptable. Shipping inside and outside of Thailand can be arranged. There's lots to see. There are also places to eat and... More

Loved it here, all sorts of little wooden things which you could often see being made. Some beautiful furniture which, if you were prepared to ship, would be brilliant to have in your home or garden. Very reasonable prices, cheaper than the Night Bazaar! ...and you knew the people were getting the money!

This was an unexpectedly interesting place. If only some of the handmade furniture and lighting could be packed away in my suitcase. 😊While staying in Chiang Mai we hired a car through our hotel since the village was a ways out of town. (Who knew it would only cost $12 American to hire the car and driver for the entire... More
