.. but can spend nice half an hour Pigeon feeding, people watching or spending some time in the multiple cafes across both the sides Don't plan this, you will pass by one of the days during your trip. Is also the starting point for Sunday night market

The gate is just old bricks that separates the old city with the newer city, but you can't tell the difference between the old and new city. But it does have historical valve if you want to check it out.

Not sure why this is listed, but I will review nonetheless. Do not make plans to go see this gate, but know you will probably see it while you are in Chiang Mai, anyways. The gate is located in an open space where several main roads merge near the center of town. It is a quite distinct area that is... More

It's a square with the old city walls and lots of pigeons. It could be nice for sitting there and have some relaxing moment if it were not for the tourists who come here just for the birds. Some people sell grains for birds (and the first one we met tried -of course- to overprice them) and basically the rest... More

i really dont understand what is the hassle with this gate, its great landmark to arrange a meet up cause the area in front is huge. but the gate itself is more or less faceless. just an ancient brick wall. not much to see. You'll see many tourist taking photo in front of the brickwall, which looks like any other... More

A great place to navigate from and meet with people, a short stroll for a great massage. Feed the birds bloody pigeons everywhere they are house trained as they will not poop on you when they fly away when they get startled , good shot for a few funny pics and starting point for your walk around the old city... Thapae Gate is one of the most recognizable places in Chiang Mai. It is a favorite spot for tourists to take group pictures and selfies. Also great for children for feeding the pigeons and the fish in the moat.

My boyfriend and I went to visit just to check it off the list, ended up staying here much longer than we thought buying big seed for 20baht a bag feeding the pigeons. A man selling the bird seed took many photos for us on our phones. Would come here again and again.
