My boyfriend and I visited Chiang Mai for vacation and knew we wanted to visit some sort of elephant sanctuary. We found Ran-Tong Save and Rescue on a random website that placed it as an above average place, but it was so much more than average. Originally, we heard terrible things about people who rode elephants and sanctuaries that inhumanely... More

Unfortunately the pickup van was running late which cut into the time we got to spend with the elephants, but it was an amazing morning! The baby elephants were adorable and happy to interact with visitors. The staff also clearly loves the animals! Being given a mahout outfit to wear was a unique aspect of our visit and meant our... My husband and I had an amazing time at Ran Tong Elephant Preserve! We did the full day elephant experience, each with our own elephants. Booking online with them was easy and the even confirmed with us the day before regarding pick-up. They picked-us up right from the hotel and brought us to their facilities. We had a wonderful day... Ran-Tong was recommended by our B&B host as one of the best elephant rescue centres to go and it was a wonderful surprise. The spot is amazing, located in the middle of green mountains and all elephants are really well taken care of, they seem happy in their new habitat. You're able to interact with them in a natural way,... More

My husband and I booked the elephant ride and water rafting experience. First, the elephant riding was great fun. You start by changing into thick clothes to protect your skin. Next, you feed the elephants bananas and they have a sniff of you with their trunks ha ha. They are all ex working / circus elephants. Many used for logging... More

The Ran-Tong Elephant rescue is one of many elephant sanctuaries. This one does seems to give the impression that they are genuinely helping abused elephants. It helped that a Swedish volunteer guide gave the tour. She could explain a lot. So I do think I can recommend Ran-Tong. The only minus was that we were kept waiting for an hour... More

If you really cares of these poor animals don't go to these place.they offer half day staying but since the van pick you from the hotel you have one stop unnecessary at their office in Chiang mai.after that you have a 20 minutes road travel but they make a stop for coffee again for 10 minutes. It is clear that... More

Just to be clear - there are two branches of Ran-Tong, one where you can ride and one where you can't. As we were concerned about the ethical aspects of riding, we went to the no-ride camp where you they have young elephants you interact with. After a hairy journey with a driver who went far too fast and veered... More

I visited the elephant rescue center. You will enjoy the kindness of the guide (A Swedish woman, passionate by her job). The visit stars with introduction to elephants and the purpose of the rescue center. After changing your clothes (and put your clothes in lockers) you will go for a ride of 1h on elephants and finish in a river... More

We enjoyed our incredible half day ride with the kind elephants at Rantong. Fair was informative and kind as she answered all of our questions about the elephants and prepared us to ride. They provide clothes so you don't need to worry about getting your own clothes dirty - you will get dirty! They picked us up on time and... More
