A remarkable 15th century Wat, built as a smaller replica of the Bodh Gaya temple in Bihar, India. The architects hadn’t seen the original, but copied another replica in Bagan, Myanmar. So, having been to Bodh Gaya, I have to say it’s not quite right, but charming nonetheless. There was a Buddhist Congress here (the sixth? There have only been about a dozen in over 2,500 years). Surprisingly well preserved stucco work. Easily accessible from the ring road.

This is one of the lesser promoted temples of Chiang Mai but still worth keeping on one's schedule. Having seven spires makes this an unusual temple and it also one in a state of some disrepair. We had this temple and its grounds pretty much to ourselves, which made for a very nice visit.

The 'things to do' section of Chiang Mai is an intriguing mix of spas, cookery schools, elephant riding parks and even women's correctional facilities. For those of you more interested in architecture than deep tissue massage or lemongrass, Wat Chet Yot is one of the must-sees of the north of Thailand. A 15th century replica of the famous Bodagaya site in India, it features some weathered spires and atmospherically peeling stucco work. I hope the Thai Arts Department doesn't turn up one day and try and 'renovate' ie. destroy this ancient temple. Situated on the outskirts of Chiang Mai, this is a quiet and relaxing place where you can wander around at your own pace, enjoying the sound of birds in the trees. Few foreign tourists make it out here; you won't regret it if you do.

What is especially beautiful about this place is the Khmer style central structure with intricate carvings. The surrounding grounds were also stunning and there is a large Maha Bodhi Tree (planted in 1455) with hundreds of contributed "support" poles - lots of history to read about here!

Wat Chet Yot (Wat Photharam Maha Wihan), is the Temple for all with the chinese star sign SNAKE.!
The temple is also for other people very interesting and just beautiful.

With a scooter it is only about 20 minutes from the old city chiang mai.
At the last intersection before the university you must turn right on the Highway Chiang Mai - Lampang (Highway 11) and then just drive 1 km straight.

Check it out it's worth !!!

Lying northwest of the city center, on the other side of the super highway, Wat Jed Yod dates its construction to the Kingdom of Lanna’s Golden Age. King Tilokaraj ordered it built to be the venue for the 8th World Buddhist Council in 1477. The name Jed Yod means Seven Towers, after the seven chedis that form the upper part of the viharn. Very different from other temples in and around Chiang Mai, it is modeled on the Mahaboudhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, India, where the Buddha achieved his enlightenment. Still in good condition, its walls feature sculpted reliefs of Buddhist angels
The tall chedi in the compound was erected in 1487, the year of Tilokaraj’s death, and houses his ashes. In the higher niches are seated Buddha images. The large tree in the glade next to it grew from a seed of the bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, under which the Buddha sat during his enlightenment. The park here is very quiet and shady and the compound draws few tourists, mostly just local residents.
