This was a once-in-a-life-time experience, so I'm glad we did it, but it wasn't one of my top highlights of the trip. We chose Patara because it appeared the most ethical Elephant place that still allows you to ride them for a short period...which was on my bucket list. It didn't live up to the hype of all the excellent... More

OMG! What a day. Starting with pick up from hotel early morning 8am until drop off 4pm. Big day but well worth it...and the price. Started by being allocated to an elephant (and individual trainer) that's matched to your personality. They meet and greet by feeding, then brush down followed by a scrub in the stream. The elephants lay down... More

The one thing we wanted to stay away from was elephant riding on a board over their spines. Here was our half day: Show up with approximately 14 people and get to just hang out with a few of the mother elephants and their babies (one was 2 months old and VERY precious). For about 30 minutes everyone is taking... More

I visited Patara on 5/15 for a full day. I researched humane & ethical elephant camps extensively prior to coming to Thailand. I also book Elephant Nature Park overnight 5/16-5/17. Initially, I found the staff at Patara to be informative & they appeared devoted to the animals well-being. However, it also felt very "touristy" by the photographer & the staging... More

We spent an afternoon at the elephant day care and it was perfection. After we were picked up at the hotel we had some expert level driving up into the mountains where were were introduced to out elephants for the day. Our guide was amazing and showed genuine care for this group of rescued elephants. The elephants were from local... More

Great elephant sanctuary where you can see they are treated well. Really hands on with feeding and washing the elephants but you'll be in love by the end!

I emailed Patara with my preferred date and they replied saying that, unfortunately, the Elephant Owner For a Day program was already fully booked, but they could offer the Elephant Day Care program - a half day program with a shorter elephant ride. I felt it was just perfect for me as the elephant riding was the thing that least... More

If you want to go in an elephant sanctuary but you are worried about the animals safety and well care, I definitely think it iis the place to go. It was an amazing experience with elephants and the team is really nice. They don't talk english so well most of them but you still feel safe, really impressive though. All... More

This is one of the greatest things I have ever done whilst traveling. You get a true one on one experience with the elephant. Everyone gets their own elephant and trainer. We did our research and they really treat the elephants well. We definitely saw this. Would recommend to anyone. It does involve a little athleticism I must say to... More
