Beautiful structure - likely designed as a tourist trap from the beginning
Mar. 2021
First, this is really cool sanctuary. The wood carvings are insanely gorgeous and require highly skilled artists to carve them. I've spent quite a bit of time in Thailand over the years and I've got to say this is probably the most beautiful building I've ever seen there. The carvings are absolutely amazing. I highly ... HIGHLY suggest not taking the tour, because it was the tour that left a sour taste in my mouth and made me feel like I was a sucker losing my money into a tourist trap. If I just walked around the grounds and appreciated the artwork on my own, I would've left thinking about the amazing structure I just saw.

But that isn't what happened, I took the tour. I've toured countless temples and sanctuaries around Thailand. I knew something was wrong when within the first 10 minutes of the tour the guide did not mention when it was built. The historical significance is typically promoted at all other temples and sanctuaries. The tour guide said construction began in 1981. In other words, there is absolutely no historical value to this building. It was built to get money from tourist's pockets. I later asked several locals in Pattaya about the sanctuary and none of them even knew it existed. But it was fine ... it was fairly new. I didn't write it off yet. Then over the next 30 minutes I listened to the tour guide recite what can only be described as utter nonsense. I can give you the entire purpose of the tour with one sentence .... the connection of water, life, and earth. The entire tour was just line after line of different ways of connecting the three. At one point we saw a statue in a small space. The statue had a single light bulb above it. The tour guide explained the symbolic nature of the single light bulb as it represents one life ascending from the earth. A more likely explanation is that there is only room for one light bulb above the statue and adding more would look silly. It seemed the tour guide was trying to attach meaning to everything in the sanctuary, it was overkill, and the spiritual and philosophical explanations seemed to be written at a rather basic level.

In short ... gorgeous structure that can be appreciated for the intense amount of detail. Just don't take the tour. I would've liked the place so much more if I didn't hear the made up history of spiritual significance of the sanctuary.

Truly Amazing Structure.
May 2020
Tucked away on the shoreline of Naklua in northern Pattaya is this amazing structure made entirely of wood and carvings with no steel nails.

Entrance is from Naklua Soi 12 and for a small entrance fee you can stay in the grounds all day and enjoy this magnificent place. There are guides that can show you around and explain the meaning of the different parts of the structure. There is also a workshop where the highly skilled craftsmen and women are at work making the parts and figures that make the Sanctuary of Truth what is is. I believe they have been building it since the 1980s and it is still not complete.

Also in the grounds which are jungle like and quite large there are elephants with handlers as well as a small lake which you can hire a small boat and feed some fish. On the shore next to the lake there is a shop selling refreshments like tea coffee, water juice, beer and snacks. Next to that there is seating and a stage where every hour or so Thai traditional dancers perform followed by a traditional Thai sword fight which is quite impressive.

All this and you can't even see it from downtown Pattaya, around 200thb from downtown in a taxi cab and you're there, best to go around Mid morning so you have plenty of time to enjoy this place.

So no trip to Pattaya or Thailand for that matter is complete without a visit to 'The Sanctuary Of Truth'.

It's ok. It's cool for the first 5 minutes. With the name I thought it was a special temple but it's just a privately owned tourist destination. A good place for photos.

Unbelievable beautiful intricate wood carvings. Must see.
Dec. 2019 • Friends
The intricate carvings were extensive & beautiful. I was in awe at the wood work. Everything was created in wood with so many different carvings i couldn't keep up. Description in words & even pictures are inadequate. This is a must experience destination if anywhere close.

It is rare for me to be overwhelmed with emotion when entering a museum.. A monument or just seeing a painting.
Today I witnessed something remarkable.. The detail of artisanship and craft that has been invested in this ongoing project is staggering. I am humbled to say the site and sight truly moved me.

Wheelchair friendly.
Guided tours in English and Chinese
Entrance fee of 500Thb
And shoes on all the way.
Sacred reliquaries in the museum for worshippers.

The tour itself will take about an hour.. And then you can rome to take pictures as needed.
The fee includes the use if a helmet while in the museum as construction is still ongoing.

Covid rules in place. Please have a mask when going.
Also note.. You will need to climb stairs.. If this is an issue.. Please mention it before meeting at the tour assembly point.

Really quite special
Sep. 2020 • Solo
This is quite a special structure. The wood carvings that adorn the building are hand carved and every joint is secured by dowels and pegs; not a nail in the place. The artisans are working constantly and you can see the patience and skill required to create each decoration. The building has been worked on constantly for 39 years and while it looks old it is only 39 years old. Worth a trip.
