About
Every weekend, a section of Hanoi’s old town is closed to road traffic, and the streets come to life with stalls peddling clothes, footwear, sunglasses, souvenirs, and more. So put on your haggling hat, and come hungry, as delicious local delights and snacks are on offer. Cap off your evening at one of the adjacent bars, preferably one with a balcony overlooking the hustle and bustle below. Or wander the streets surrounding the market and make your way over to the always lively nightlife area of Ta Hien Street or Bia Hoi corner. – Tripadvisor

- AbhishekLucknow, India54 contributionsBetter options, higher prices. The night market is a celebration of everything that Hanoi has to offer. It takes place on Saturday and Sunday from 8 pm to 11 pm. However, prices on Sunday are better than that on Sunday. However, the prices you get on normal days in shop are better and in fact, the night market prices were quoted on the higher side. You must bargain a lot and not hope for anything authentic.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 22, 2023
- AJ2000Sydney, Australia15 contributionsAverage market, enjoyable lake walk away from the stalls. This was pretty convenient for shopping but only if you already want to buy things. Our teenagers were happy expanding their wardrobe at good prices. Agree with others it is repetitive and a few stalls close by the lake are probably enough before it's all the same. Best value is in keeping it short and finishing off with a beautiful walk around the lake where the vendors are gone and is filled with activities and shows instead, all free and family friendly. A completely different and relaxed vibe! We had also been warned about pick pockets and shady vendors in the market area. I got ripped off like others! Someone recommended have lots of small change and only give exact money and this is fantastic advice. Heaps of chancers around. Is extremely crowded at the market, mayhem in the streets where the traffic is blocked, but really joyful around the lake.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten December 11, 2023
- Michael TSingapore, Singapore2,948 contributionsLively Night MarketWe were walking back to our hotel which was in the Hanoi Old Quarter after dinner at Bun Cha Ta restaurant. Along the way we passed by a busy pedestrianised area which was the night market. I could not remember the name of the street. It was a Friday evening. The streets were closed to traffic. Vendors set up stalls selling clothings, souvenirs, food, paintings etc. It was a lively place. The most prominent and most brightly lit building was the Ham Ca Map (which means teeth of the shark). That appeared to be the most photogenic and sought after spot for that instagrammable shot. The weather was cool that evening. We had so much fun just being outdoor and wandering around (when you don’t have to worry about motorbikes circling round you).Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten December 28, 2023
- ArundevKerala, India34 contributionsIt was an amazing experience in the night marketA must-visit place on your Vietnam trip. In fact, this is a weekend night market, open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Try to reach there around 6 p.m. and experience the arrangements for the night market. How they are changing a normal street into a night market where a lot of antique shops, street foods, dress shops, etc. are available. Vietnamese are very kind and always put a smile on their faces, which makes us more comfortable and gives us a feeling to spend more time there. Like everywhere, you need to bargain at some points. Sometimes, we may feel it is worth buying something at their cost. We stay there till the market closes. We had street food, bought many items, and talked to many local people. You need to add weekends to your trip to experience the night market. We put the night market on our last day for final shopping before going back home. This is a must-visit place to complete your Vietnam-Hanoi holiday.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten March 20, 2024
- arpitamGurugram (Gurgaon), India931 contributionsSecond to Danang night marketThis is actually a busy thoroughfare throughout the day which turns into a night market after 7 in the evening. The flea market is good for tourists though preference would be to shop from the Dong Xuan wholesale market. The latter closes by 6pm. So if one has the evening only for shopping the night market is the good option. One may also club the Hoan Kiem lake - Nhoc Son Temple visit and finish off with night market.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten April 13, 2024
- Varsha SSingapore, Singapore23 contributionsSo much fun and fantastic prices!During my final Sunday evening in Vietnam, I found myself wandering through the charming streets of Hanoi's Old Quarter and stumbled upon the Night Market. To my delight, I discovered that it offered everything I had purchased earlier, but at even better prices. In hindsight, I wish I had saved my shopping for this vibrant market experience. It's certainly a worthwhile addition to any itinerary, making it worth considering planning your trip around a Sunday evening in Hanoi.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten April 15, 2024
- AJ2000Sydney, Australia15 contributionsFun night out with family of teenagersSo much fun with the family! Great for picking up some bargain clothing or cute souveniers. Gets very busy but is easy to navigate. Recommend finishing with a relaxing walk around the lake soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying some fun performances along the way. Also great after the intensity of the market. Teenage kids cut their teeth bargaining and picked up some decent bargains at the market (I think the stall owners were being kind!). We stopped at an ice cream stall on the lake during our walk which finished the night perfectly. Very squashy at the market and not recommended for prams, wheelchairs etc however plenty of space around the lake which would be wheelchair / pram friendly.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten June 8, 2024
- Coyote-TravelerzJacksonville, Florida2,675 contributionsPleasantCompared to other night markets in Southeast Asia and Vietnam, this isn’t the best. Don’t let that discourage you from taking time out to enjoy the market. Each one is different and offers its own unique opportunities. We found wondering the streets and soaking up the atmosphere to be a very pleasant experience. It wasn’t too crowded (we didn’t feel like sardines) and we saw some interesting things on our stroll. It’s also a good opportunity to visit some of the historical places in the old section (like the gate or temples). As noted in other reviews, there are a lot of vendors selling knockoff products (which makes it a tacky experience) and not nearly as many street food vendors as you might see in other night markets.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten August 22, 2024

Redundant (and oddly overpriced) fake garbage imported from China.
The grossly underwhelming experience is tragically worsened by cranky retailers.
I recommend a trip to Bangkok for anyone interested in a good day/night market.

If you’ve never been to a night market before in any other part of Southeast Asia, you might think that this is really great however if you have been to other markets like those in Bangkok, Thailand or other parts of Thailand this market was quite poor in comparison.
Firstly the street is not closed to motorbikes and they are still driving up and down incessantly whilst you were trying to shop which is really annoying. They should stop the street For All traffic including bikes.
Secondly the stores are mainly clothing and fake goods which is fine if you want some counterfeit crocs handbags wallet belts and sportswear stuff but it wasn’t like other markets that had cute dresses or other types of interesting items. There were very little handcraft as well but the usual tat that you can find everywhere .
Thirdly we found the market was significantly lacking in food options compared to other markets we’ve been to in Southeast Asia. There were a lot of reviews about the food so we came without eating hoping to to try a few things but we really couldn’t see anything apart from a few stools selling octopus tentacles and other things on a stick.
We were so disappointed by this market we thought that we went to early so then we went away and had some beers and came back again later in the night thinking that maybe more things would be open then however it was still exactly the same so all of the other reviews that we read about this market Were quite confusing. There were also very little places to sit and enjoy a drink or beer and watch the world go by all of the shops on the sidelines are clothing shops there’s only really one coffee shop but we saw that had a small balcony all in all probably one of the poorest,
experiences.

Prepare for a pleasurable assault on the senses.
If you love great food, street side grills of questionable tasty meats on a skewer, a bustling chaotic atmosphere, market stalls of counterfeit designer brands, garments, fruit and veg, fresh juice, toys, electronics just too many to list, live performances of traditional and modern music and pantomime, endless streets of packed bars and restaurants all inviting you in ,photo opportunities and a warm scenic walk around the lake.
I highly recommend the night market to all travellers to experience.

One of the better night market in Vietnam. Lots of vendors and activities. We got 15 toddler clothes set. 1 set (shirt & pant) for under $1 USA or 25k dong. Such a good bargain, I wish I got dresses too for my daughter, but we didn’t have room in our suitcase.
Beware of pocket thieves! A guy tried to steal my phone in my bag not realizing I was holding on to my phone strap the whole time lol he was shocked and apologized for trying to steal my phone -_-

Great city to walk at night. They close off the streets Fri-Sun for pedestrians. Much more chill than HCM but awesome all the same.

Is the weekend night market closed due to the coronavirus?
Written February 12, 2020
Most people are afraid of nCoV-2019, they'd prefer staying at home so there are not many people on street. Small businesses are effected, they might close because there is mostly no customer and they are afraid of the virus, too

What price for cheap cotton shirts
Written November 16, 2017
It will depend on your size . If you are a westerner and you are bigger than a women’s size 12 or a men’s med to large you won’t get them at the markets. If you are under this size you will pay anything from 100,000 vnd up. Barter because if your not Vietnamese they will try to charge you double. Anything marked with a price is usually non negotiable unless your buying a lot.

Are you able to get items from the night market online.as I have now left hanoi and would like to purchase something I saw there. Arr there online retailers?
Written December 28, 2016
Don't just follow the main streets, there are more interesting places than that, and they're cross that main street, it take you some steps to get there.
- Ouside of Bach Ma temple (intersection Hang Buom- Hang Giay): Vietnamese folk music performance
- On Dao Duy Tu, Ma May, Hang Giay, Luong Ngoc Quyen street: instrumental performances
- Food street Hang Buom arranges 40 booths of traditional drinks, cakes and some snacks European and Asian
- Around Hoan Kiem lake, from the statue of Ly Thai To to Thang Long water puppets theatre: Vietnamese traditional games, you can join in tug of war game, it's so fun
- Intersection of Ta Hien and Luong Ngoc Quyen, the international intersection (because many foreign tourists gather here): you can have beer, snacks,... while listen to music from bars around, you may get some friends here 😁 --> it's the best place to spend with your friends after walking around

Is the night market open fri sat and Sunday nights ? Or is it weekends only ? Are there copy watches ? Thanks
Written July 6, 2016
Hi Adam
The Night Market is opened on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. They start setting up shop at around 18:30 and close at around 23:00. They do sell copy watches there but I wasn't buying any, so I don't know the price.
