"Visiting Vietnam without listening to a rhythm of ca tru traditional music means that you've not discovered the real spirit of Vietnam yet." "Free yourself and get immersed in ca tru while enjoying performance by Thang Long Ca Tru Theatre. It is a voluntary, non-profit group of ca tru musicians founded in 2006. Long-time history, unique instruments, impressive music tones and meaningful song lyrics made ca tru recognized by UNESCO as the World Intangible Cutural Heritage." "This is a concert for about 70 persons held in an old temple in the old quarter of Hanoi. They are good about explaining the instruments and the history of the music. They even let you come try out the instruments. The hot tea and little cake is a nice touch at intermission" "The singers had such dear, expressive faces and sang with such intensity. The instruments were unique and had a real otherworldly quality to them and the presentation and overall performance were of a very high quality. I felt delighted, entertained and educated. Well worth going to see."-Visited wrote The show is on every Thursday and Saturday night at 8pm at 28 Hang Buom (Quan De Temple).

A must see. Unique experince, and no doubt that it is takes hard training to syncronize the puppets. A nice evening.

Overpriced and not professional. This experience could be organized so much better. The venue itself is nice (an old traditional courtyard) and the atmosphere is nice. Unfortunately everything is turned into an average touristic attraction of the "try it yourself" kind. In the end the music show itself lasts about 30 minutes only, maybe even less, and then they try... More

A group of three went to this theatre, two were ambivalent but I thoroughly enjoyed this simple and elegant presentation of Vietnamese culture. Only takes an hour, the musicians explain each segment and the audience is invited to try the instruments in the interval. Great pre dinner activity.

CA TRU Hanoi ... A Vietnamese Traditional Music Concert; this is a world intangible cultural heritage recognized by UNESCO - CA TRU. We attended the concert on July 19 th which was an intimate gathering of about 8 guests who thoroughly enjoyed the music and dance and explanations of such. It helped us to better understand the music and the... More

I wasn't planning on watching the show when we went to Hanoi as I wasn't sure I'd enjoy listening to songs in a language I couldn't understand. We happened to pass by the venue of the Ca Tru performance at the oldest house on Ma May St. when we took the electric car tour. I was intrigued when I saw... More

Feel like coming back to the old time. I was happy that they can keep the fire for our intangible heritage. It such a waste if we lost the source of Ca Tru singer. Should definitly go there. My husband could even try the drum ( me too) they taught us how to hit the drum of Ca Tru correctly.... More

Very clever and fun to watch, the lack of vietnamese is no barrier at all. Great show, lasts about an hour so you can eat afterwards. Worth the money, but please if you go, turn off you camera flash, it's annoying!!!!

Very entertaining and professionally done. It is also well priced for a 45 minute show. Very easy to find just opposite Hoan Kiem Lake and Ngoc Son Temple. English and French explanations before each act of the show were very welcome. If you like this show you will love the one in Ho Chi Minh which is very funny.

Thourough explanations with emotional vocals. It is a bit hidden but well worth it. Catru art almost disappeared a while ago and Vietnam is trying to make it come back. The tea break in the middle of the performance is well appreciated.
