REstaurants and shops galore

Busy street. Some very high end, but also inexpensive shopping, lots of hotels and restaurants Lots of traffic day and into night, but that's true all over this quarter.

We ate there on the first night in Hanoi. The service was poor but the food exclusive and very beautifully served. . Exclusivity means that the portions were economized. The prices were sky high, which we of course did not know at the time. As an example 2x Hanoi beer was charged 104.000 DONG. It costs 30-40.000 Dong everywhere else.... More

I have had 7 pants/10 shirts, all linen tailored here, lost card but has "duc" in name.So risky to find good tailors as to quality + materials. Some offer blends as pure linen. They have my details on file, on each trip I email, they retrieve details.I wear their pants, they check to see no change. I leave pants/shirts pick new colour... More

On Friday night this area is closed to traffic and there are a few vendors and a large gathering for the locals. The very young crowd and families gather here to hear music bands, street magicians, and play tug-of-ware. From here walk to and around the lake. This is Hanoi's Time Square. There's a coffee shop in the picture. It's... More

Hang Gai Street - or Silk Street is a street in the Old Quarter of Hanoi dominated by shops selling silk and clothing. Wonderful place to pick up silk or other fabric souvenirs and to get a feel of the Old Quarter.

I find these nick names of different streets, while they once had meaning, not particular helpful in contemporary Hanoi. Each street is way more diverse than the name indicates. This particular street is extra wide near the park, and thus makes crossing it a bit of a challenge, except on weekends when they put up barriers here to keep the... More

Good for shopping for silk and handbags. Negotiate over prices as this is tourist area. Find what you like here then go to the side streets.

Grab a table at one of the cafes surrounding the beginning of this street (near the lake) and admire the fact that you made it safely to this site without being overrun by rather uncoordinated traffic which nevertheless works amazingly fluid. Don`t think of your way home, with high probability you make it.

This is just another hectic street on the old part of towns, with shops and street food outlets to match. Nothing unique about it.
