    Stunning sight to behold
The serene environment of the lake is a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The lake is abundant with wildlife, from the turtles that inhabit the lake to the birds that soar above it. The lake is surrounded by stunning scenery, making it a great place to take a leisurely stroll or just sit and take in the beauty of the lake. The lake also has great historical significance, as it is believed to be the place where Emperor Le Loi returned the magical sword to the Golden Turtle God. A glimpse into life in Hanoi
A beautiful lake at the middle of which is a Temple. The lake shore is lit up at night (we where there on a weekend) with buskars and impromptu groups playing music, A lovely way to spend an evening at Hanoi. By the lakeside is the Water Puppet Theatre, which on the evening we were there was enacting the tale of the Restored Sword.

    Social place
The land mark of the old quarter. Lovely to walk around, there is always something going on. When roads are closed for the weekend it is even better as all the families come out to play and enjoy the space. Kids have little cars, jenga, stalls, food and music. It is nice to just sit and watch the crazy Hanoi traffic too, if you are lucky enough to get a seat. Very popular meeting place and loads of exercise groups meet there in the mornings which is quite fun.

    Fantastic night and morning view
This place is absolutely fantastic. My hotel is conveniently located just 5 minutes away, allowing me to visit both in the morning before joining my group tour and at night. The atmosphere on Fridays and Saturdays is particularly lively and vibrant. There's an additional stage where locals provide entertainment, and the streets are filled with an array of street foods and restaurants. It's a safe place to walk around, even for solo travelers. Ngoc Son Pagoda entrance fee is Vnd30,000

    Centre of activities in Hanoi
This lake is a central to the citizens of Hanoi which bustles with activities even during the night time. There are plenty of eating places, Old Quarter area, restaurants and hotels on its periphery. In the centre is a temple which is lighted during the night and gives a unique visual delight.

Kids will ask for your help with English
Vietnamese children who want to practice their English will often come up to foreigners at this lake and ask for help. It would be nice if you could chat with them for awhile. People use this lake a lot. On Sundays lots of yoga enthusiasts hang out here. In the mornings many people show up at the lake to exercise or jog.

    Lovely place to wander.
This is such a lovely place to wander around. There are locals and tourists alike enjoying the surroundings. We walked the perimeter, stopped and had banh mi whilst watching the world go by, it was just great! It's a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of the old town and there are some great coffee shops nearby.

A very pleasant walk around this attractive lake. It was still part of the Chinese New Year holiday when we went and so was rather crowded. This gave it a sense of vibrancy though, rather than just feeling busy. People were there to enjoy themselves. The lake side is surrounded by landscaped gardens and there are various points of interest to divert to. Easy to spend a leisurely 2 hours here.

We loved our evening stroll around Hoan Kiem Lake. The romantic ambience was perfect, with the bridge all lit up and couples enjoying the cool air. After a scenic walk, we settled into one of the many restaurants lining the lake for some delicious Vietnamese cuisine. The mix of grand architecture, especially the Ngoc Son Temple, and the lively atmosphere made the whole experience unforgettable. It's the perfect spot in Hanoi for a date night!

Its scenic beauty drew us in; the peaceful atmosphere is what made us linger. We enjoyed strolling the pedestrian-friendly walkways, observing the daily life of locals unfolding around the water. The views of Ngoc Son Temple, nestled on the island, were particularly picturesque. As a popular spot for both tourists and residents, it can get a bit crowded at times, especially on weekends. We found that early mornings and evenings offered the most tranquil experiences. Hoan Kiem Lake is more than a scenic landmark; it provides a unique glimpse into the rhythm of Hanoi life, blending tradition with modernity.

Amazing to have all the roads blocked from Friday evening until Sunday evening. There were many Vietnamese residents watching a football match projected on a large screen, and we observed a wide variety of activities, such as dancing, skipping, singing, and hacky sack games. It's lovely to see so many visitors and residents having a good time together.

Hoan Kiem Lake is more than just a scenic spot in Hanoi, it's a place where history and the city's vibrant present come alive. The lake itself offers a peaceful respite from the bustling streets, a space where we observed locals engaged in morning exercise routines or simply relaxing.
The Ngoc Son Temple, connected via the iconic red Huc Bridge, provides a fascinating glimpse into Vietnamese history and legend. We enjoyed strolling around the temple grounds, admiring the grand architecture. Throughout the day, the surrounding streets transform with food vendors and vibrant street life, yet the lake maintains its air of tranquility. This unique blend, along with the friendly encounters with locals, made Hoan Kiem Lake a highlight of our Hanoi trip.
