The attractive shape of the only city gate remaining in Hanoi harks back to a time when the city was under siege. Walk through the arched main entrance of the Hanoi Old City Gate and imagine being one of the soldiers who heroically defended the city...more

Although there was not much to see, it is still worth visiting there to get a feel on the old Hanoi City.

An interesting place to visit for history enthusiasts but it is in a very busy area with no information boards.

Not particularly interesting and lacks any signage or explanation that we could see. Is surrounded by bustling tourist shops and cafes, so you'd really need to go out of your way to look for it (if it's your kind of thing)

Not much is left of the old city walls, but this entrance gate remains. In a crummy neighborhood and with trash everywhere. Only if you're headed to the big market. Don't go out of the way.

Firstly, it’s on the wrong location in the TripAdvisor app map. With help of maps.me I could find it. This gate is in one of dirtiest corners of the Old Quarter. It does not have any architectural charme.

This definitely looks better at night cause of the lights. I read that you can walk underneath here. My question is how?! It's hard enough to even just cross the street. LOL.

This is historical gate, where the king pass. There are 3 gates here, one is for king and two for others. In all the Vietnam , there are 3 gates, where one is for the king, and rest for the others.

Proof that they meant business when they built this gate. Two big chunks are knocked into the gate where the French tried to break in the first time. They didn’t succeed the first time but they did the second. A definite must see in Vietnam

A small old gate near the French Quarter. Not worth going to seek out, but worth a 5 minute look if nearby, Some decent photo ops there. A buzz of activity near there always.
