I mean you can fault history, right? So it's hard to rate it as average. The site itself is poorly organized by modern people. They exhibited stuff that is so little I wouldn't call it a museum. They have different halls and sites that you...More

There is more to see than the various reviews suggest. a great deal of time and effort is being put into uncovering the remaining ruins and evidence of the largely destroyed structures. The archaeological sites are interesting and very accessible via walkways. Not open on...More

Being a bit of an UNESCO heritage nerd I was determined to have a look at the Imperial Citadel. My daughter (aged 13) was less than enthusiastic! We approached it from totally the wrong way which led to confusion. I had to ask directions from...More

Hard to believe I have never been to Imperial Citadel of Thăng Long before. It really has become my favourite museum/site in Hanoi. The history of this place is amazing having had many uses since 1010 AD. They have done archaeological digs here and you...More

...but unfortunately, because this is such a poorly organised attraction, lacking maps and clear signs, people might miss things. The old buildings are interesting in and of themselves but the exhibitions about what preceded the current layout are even better. Best of all are the...More

This is well worth an hour of so--- and is a pleasant walk around. Good description and signage in Vietnamese, French, and English-- and quite helpful to better understand the history of Vietnam and Hanoi. Two smaller rooms with good artifacts excavated from the site....More

We had a great time walking around the citadel. It's very interesting with monuments/attractions spanning thousands of years across Vietnam's history. Its also very quiet and a nice respite from the busyness of Hanoi. You could spend anywhere from 40 mins to 2 hrs here.

Once we figured out that you have to go to the south end to get into the Citadel, we were on our way. Very pretty grounds, excavation sites and an opportunity to go down into the bunker to see where they ran the war operations...More
