This is a boat rental point, you can hire a paddle boat and enjoy the scenic views all around you!
We paid 100,000/- VND for 2 people and got ourselves a nice, clean swan shaped paddle boat. We enjoyed the quite peaceful lake in the afternoon.
There was not waiting or rush during the entire process!
Do take out time and enjoy this beautiful boat ride!

Smaller lake neighbouring with West lake. Surrounded with restaurants, coffee shops. We had a lunch in near by vegan restaurant. We enjoyed relatively low cold unusual for this time temperature around twenty degrees and walked to old quarter along parks and main governmental square. Water is not clean, sometime too much dirt in. Enjoy a lot of place near by

Truc Bach Lake is a gem of a place. There’s plenty to do around the lake..the lake itself is a bit polluted, unfortunately. But don’t despair the park around the lake is really local. I mean you’re away from the touristy Hoan Kien Lake..which is also wonderful on it’s own right. At Truc Bach there plenty of street food and small local shops and restaurants around with more of a local charm. This is also in walking distance to Pho Cuon Huong Mai and good Pho Spot. We caught the sunset over this famous lake…ah yes the lake is famous. Tis is the lake that the Late Senator John McMcain (US) crashed his jet into during the Vietnam War. The sunsets here are amazing and romantic. The lake where John McLain parachuted is separated from the large Tay Ho (West Lake) by a causeway. It was divided long ago to create a fish farm.
On the causeway, there is a monument that commemorates the local citizens pulling Lt. Cmdr. McLain from the water.
The causeway is also a nice early morning walk and an opportunity to participate in the many Vietnamese community exercise classes that take place on the causeway.

This could and should be a really pleasant place to walk around in Ha Noi.
Unfortunately it is, in reality, a cesspool. It is stagnant, filthy and stinks. This is really noticeable in the northern side where on the days we visited the water was BLACK with filth and sewage.
Believe it or not people were fishing hoping to catch their dinner!
Ha Noi really needs to do something about this as if you fell in it would be a death sentence.

I walked around this lake when on my way to the Tran Quoc Pagoda. It was quite a peaceful walk with minimal traffic except for the Tran Quoc Pagoda stretch where the traffic was insane. I read online that this lake was separated from the West Lake by the construction of a narrow dike back in the 17th century to allow raising of fish. You could visit any of the cafe (like the highland coffee which I went) by the lake to enjoy the view of the lake.

By far the most white and peaceful of Hanoi’s lakes. They also have really good pho cuon Vietnamese food by ngu xa street.

We are here now and all I can say is that it's passable. There are a few coffee shops around but no reason why one would miss the West lake area and the lake of sword area to come walk around this one. Read about relevance to John Mc Cain shot here etc so visited but i would recommend give it a miss.

We walked here from our hotel in "to tich" street the old quarter, very doable. Went round the lake. Turn right around the top of the lake and every thing becomes very quiet and residential with a few cafes and just locals. We stopped for a beer here in one of the local cafes 15,000 each. Nung xa road comes in from a sort of small penisular, cross this and follow the round round. We discovered a local food market and had a nose around. If you keep going you can drop back into the old quarter by the market. Top end of the road with the night market in it. Whole route out , back and road the lake about 5.5 miles.

Get off the beaten path and away from most tourists, see the lake into which John McCain fell in 1967, breathe cleaner air than in the center of town, take a swan boat ride, and drink coffee in a sidewalk café overlooking this small lake. There is an isthmus that runs roughly N-S between West Lake and this lake, and the road Thanh Nien runs along this causeway between the lakes. On the southwest corner of the lake is a Highlands Coffee “boat”, and next to that is the place to rent a swan boat. Small cafes line the N and S banks of the lake, and some are also on the island that sits in the E side of the lake. On the island is a street (Ngu Xa) lined with places that sell a dish called “pho cuon,” which is grilled beef and veggies wrapped in a sheet of the rice pasta after which the soup pho is named--cheap and very tasty. On the isthmus is the restaurant Banh Tom Ho Tay, and on the NE side of the lake is the best Indian restaurant in the city—Food Shop 45. In the early morning, there are fruit and vegetable sellers on the SE corner of the lake and clothes sellers at the NW corner. Both are gone by about 0700. There is a traditional market, cho Chau Long, on the SE side of the lake, next to informal restaurants. You’ll see many people walking the perimeter of the lake in the morning, and fewer in the evening. The island is quieter and contains a small park on the NW side, and there is also a somewhat larger park on the S bank of the lake. The lake is a short walk from the Ho Chi Minh mausoleum and a somewhat longer but still easy walk to the military history museum and the northern part of the Old Quarter. If you make the walk to/from the Old Quarter, be sure to take Phan Dinh Phung, the most beautiful street in Hanoi.
