We happened upon this show and were really glad that we went. It helped us understand some of the fables and cultural aspects of Vietnam. It was funny at times and interesting. Not the best stage show you will ever see 5 short stories but definately worth an hour of your life.

We went as part of our private tour to Vietnam. We arrived not knowing what to expect from the Lang Toi - My Village show. We were happily surprised by the various acts - dancing, acrobatics, singing and more. It was informative of the village life in Vietnam.

It seems like half the reviewers are writing incorrectly about the water puppets (different theatre and performance entirely) or are mad about pricing. It was 150k dong which is less than $8. It's not an expensive show and I think it's a nice cultural experience for 45 minutes. So let's calm down about getting ripped off even though it is more expensive than most things here. All that means is we're getting to travel and eat and explore for very, very affordable prices in general.
First of all, you can beat the actors' enthusiasm. They all gamely put on a show for the 10 of us in the audience, playing up their slapstick humor and committing to their characters. I actually laughed at several parts, which I wouldn't do if it wasn't entertaining. The musicians were more stoic / inexpressive, but they played well.
The show has a good variety too - some silly, one serious, some music only songs. The projection with translations wasn't always accurate to speed but it was enough to follow the story plus you get a print out summarizing what you're going to see.
Is it all in perfect English? No. Is it a huge theatre and crowd? No. Is it the kind of music and theatre a westerner is used to? No. But this is Vietnam. Most of what's great about it is NOT being in the west and seeing something new and different. That's arguably the point of traveling in general, especially somewhere like this.
You pay $8 to see some of actual cultural history and support the performers who do a good job, and you'll leave an hour later no worse for it, cooled off, and hopefully with a slightly better insight into traditional Vietnamese entertainment and culture. Isn't that why you came?

We really enjoyed this almost private performance. There were about 10 people in a theater that could seat about 150-200 people. The performance was divided in 5 scenes, which including acting, music, and dance. The artists and the costumes were both amazing and gave an insight into historical Vietnamese life. We were quite tired after returning from Halong Bay an hour ago but were thoroughly refreshed by the excellent show.
This is definitely a "must go" - you'll get many times your $5 worth in this 45-minute performance. Do not miss out.

Tuong is classical dramatic theater which combines dances, songs and music with symbolism. What it doesn’t have is props. This is a nice place to spend a couple hours. There are English subtitles on a screen behind the performers so you can follow along. It is also very reasonably priced which makes it worth a trip ($5 per ticket). It is a shame that more people don’t go and see this.

Entrance Fee: VND 100,000.00
Day: Monday - Thursday
Time: 18:00
Duration: 45 minutes
Seats: Cushioned, very comfortable
Aircon: Yes
Toilet: Yes
Website: www.vietnamtuongtheatre.com
This place is not well promoted; theatre is big but only a handful of audiences in each show. You may buy the tickets just before the show, no need any bookings unless you are taking a big group.
Be there 20 minutes earlier so that you can catch a close up performance of the traditional Hue Music. The 1 string instrument is interesting and unique.
You will also have a chance to take a photograph with the ushers/musicians in traditional costumes.
There are plenty of shops nearby the theatre.
A nice range of performance; separated into 5 scenes.
1. Comedy of a tale of an old man carrying his wife - 1 person, 2 characters
2. Traditional Vietnamese Royal Music - with traditional musical instruments
3. Lion Giving Birth - quite different from the usual version of Chinese lion dance
4. Ho Nguyet Co Turning Into A Fox - a great story with excellent acting skills
(this was my favourite part)
5. Hue Royal Music (Nha Nhac)
Enjoy!

Very Nice. The show was good and it was subtiled for tourists. The music was good and I was entertained 60 mins. I felt bad for the actors and musicians. Only 11 people was there to see the show, and I think it is better than puppetshow, which is always full booked. Ticket only 100.000 dong. I went Thursday 6pm. Comfortable seats and the actors and musicians seems to love their job. Go see it, it is very vietnamese. It can be a little bit weird some times, but it is also fun.

Traditional entertainment from the time of the emperors. Where else will you see lions mate and give birth on stage or a woman turn into a fox?!!! Water puppets are great but this is well worth the $5 too!
Performances mondays and thursdays at 6pm.

A wonderful collection of few smaller performances across various segments (a play, a well solo performance, a music performance, a traditional tale in the form of dance drama). Apart from the music and costumes, the highlight was the undetered enthusiasm of the performers in the face of a sparsely populated auditorium. And there is a screen with English subtiles for audience.
The theatre is comfortable, and quite empty of audience members, and the staff and performers are friendly and enthusiastic. After the performance the audience was invited on stage to have their pictures taken with the full cast of 16 actors. They were nice and kind! I would highly recommend this show for children, families, and individuals who want to understand Vietnam better through stunning storytelling and performances!

Hello! Could you please tell the current schedule of the performances?

I am considering booking to see My village at this theatre. There is a big price difference between the 2 seating types. We will be going with kids. Do the side seats have good view and is front row a good option in this theatre or further back? I don't want the children's view blocked.
Written November 23, 2018
We also had the same issue with price difference between seating types. So we choose from cheaper side seats but those which are closer to the middle expensive ones. We had a Good view to the stage and we could see almost every thing. How ever in our Time most of the seats were Empty, so the view was not blocked.
I think a bit further back seats are better than very front seats or the first raw, just my opinion, try to get seats close to middle row and block, not also so far from the stage, some where around the center or closer than center.
Hope my answer Works
