Pros: interesting range of Vietnamese art, wonderful French colonial architecture. Cons: almost complete lack of explanation on the paintings on display.

We enjoyed the museum. The collection is not world class, but it's good for what it is. Most artists are Vietnamese or Viet Kieu. There are a few outstanding pieces (e.g., look for two wood sculptures near the entrance). The buildings are French colonial with Asian overhangs and art nouveau decor, which makes them interesting apart from the collection.

There are some interesting paintings here, for instance representations of the Vietnam war that avoid propaganda and also some abstract art from recent decades. Overall though this is not a gallery I would revisit.

Beautiful art and amazing collection spread across three different buildings (Contemporary Art which is the biggest, Special Collection, and Ancient art which is the smallest building) Very cheap to get in and worth your money. If you like to take photos and selfies, the buildings built in the early 20th C make a nice background.

There are several masterpieces here, and an unusual collection of high quality lacquer painting. Some of the works are weak, no more than street art, but overall an interesting place to spend an hour. The sculpture works were particularly attractive. However, there is no excuse for the poor upkeep of the buildings. The floors are dirty, the exhibits in desperate... More

There are a lot of paintings, which do not express the freedom and personal impression in the way Western painters do. Panters studied in Vietnam, Easter European countries (Kiev) and India. This must be constrained by Communism.

We were invited to attend this museum to witness the beauty of the historical lacquered panels explaining Vietnams history. it was truly magnificent. The surrounding walls also paid home to other fine works.

The HCMC art museum spreads over three colonial type buildings . It has a bit of everything: old ceramics, pre-war and post-war oil paintings, sculptures, modern Vietnamese paintings. The latter are actually quite good and worth looking at..... the description of the art works is in many cases deficient and in some cases altogether missing. In some cases, there is... More
