A small church next to the modern Church of St. Anne. Due to its small size, it is used as a place for prayers and lighting candles. The church contains khachkars that were discovered during the construction work of the new temple. Sometimes services are held here. Interesting arrangement of ancient and modern churches. I read in some reviews that the modern church seems to embrace Katoghike, I had an association with an old and young relative. In general, everyone here has their own associations, and the place deserves a visit.

As for me this church is the most interesting place relating to the Armenian history and their respect for traditions and culture.
The stones of the old chapel passed through many centuries and earthquakes and accumulated all the energy from trust and belief.
You feel there very comfortable and patient touching the very history.
A lot of people attending to its services and what's more amazing that many young and adolescent persons without any compulsion assist there.
At weekends some pleasant performances of a local parish take place; with religious and folklore chants singing.

Absolutely beautiful twin churches in downtown Yerevan, a short stroll from Opera Square. The St. Atsvatsatsin Church dates from the 12th or 13th century and is described on a plaque out front as being one of the oldest monuments in Yerevan. and was enclosed by the Katoghike Church which dates from 1694-95. In the 1930's the larger Katoghike Church was demolished to reveal once again the stunning St. Atvatsatsin. This survived a few earthquakes and is now known as the St Atvatsatsin Katoghike Church. Today the bigger church is that of Santa Anna. Confused yet?!
Anyway, they are both beautiful. The older, tiny sanctuary in particular. The Santa Anna is bright, modern and cosy. Well worth a visit.

This review is quite late. The Katoghike Church is strategically located at the busy streets of Abovyan and Sayat-Nova, therefore, if you are driving or walking along this area you will not miss seeing it. The architecture is impressive just like most churches in Armenia. The nearby park gives you an opportunity to spend some time to relax after a tiring stroll.

The relevant part of Yerevan isn't especially big, and given that this church is more or less in the centre it's not especially difficult to visit. The church itself is tiny and very interesting - apparently it's the only one in Yerevan to survive several earthquakes - and it's free to enter. Next door there's also a modern church in which there are often services being held which really adds to the feel and conveys the sense of being in an Armenia that has an indelible link with its history but is also very much alive today.

It was my first experience of visiting the Church in Yerevan. It's located in a good place in the city, and I like the building.

I think that this small church is the most beautiful of Yerevan.
It transfers to you the sensation of holiness when you come inside

This was a must see for me and my friends since this church is listed as the oldest in Yerevan. I love to visit ancient places and this church tiny, ancient next to a bigger more modern church. A juxtaposition of modern and ancient Christian Armenian churches.
