About
The LDWDC is an exciting new tourist destination in Vientiane. In a beautiful garden setting, it is situated on the banks of the Mekong just down the road from the Friendship Bridge. Women with disabilities come from all over Laos to live and study here, gaining life skills and vocational training to empower them to set up an independent life. Visitors can learn about Lao culture, meet some inspiring women and support a fantastic cause. Funded almost entirely through donations, your tour will provide crucial support to help us continue enabling the disabled in Laos. We welcome you to visit our new Showroom to learn more about the work of the Centre and buy handicraft made by the women who live and work here. Visitors are also able to take a guided tour of the Centre or to join us for a handicraft workshop, lunch or Baci ceremony. Bookings are required for the workshop, lunch and Baci. Suksaa Tour (Basic Guided Tour) 50,000LAK per person - 30 minutes 'Suksaa' means 'learn' in Lao. Tour the centre and gain a unique insight into life in Lao. Learn about the history of the centre and see weaving, sewing and other handicraft demonstrations. Visitors will have an opportunity to meet some truly inspiring women and to see how these women live and study here at the Centre. Surn Tour (Handicraft Class) 100,000LAK per person - 60 minutes 'Surn' is the Lao word for 'invite', we say this when inviting people to join us in meals, our homes, workplaces and other activities. In addition to a guided tour of the Centre, this package includes a handicraft workshop in which you can sit with our paper product team to learn how they turn recycled newspapers into beautiful handicrafts and make your own to take home. Lunch 80,000LAK per person - 30 minutes Taste a delicious traditional meal made fresh with vegetables from our garden. Feel free to relax in the garden and play petanque before heading to your next destination. Baci Ceremony 100,000LAK per person - 20 minutes Partake in a short Baci ceremony, an ancient Lao custom involving the tying of holy cotton threads to bless the recipient and ensure good luck on your journey.

We visited this centre on New Year's Day, so it was very quiet. A small group of women were working in the beautiful shop, and we could not have had a warmer welcome.
The handicraft is exquisitely made, and fairly priced to reflect the skill and time required to produce items such as table runners, scarves, napkins etc. It is always a privilege to buy directly from the person who made the item you are purchasing, and this felt especially true as we made our purchases.
We got there in a car (at the end of a morning tour, with a driver from our hotel) - you will need to get there by car or tuk tuk as it is located out of the city centre. It's worth it though.

I think that the LDWDC is one of those places people should visit they visit countries like Laos. It shows the great work being done to help the disabled especially, the women who are generally more disadvantaged if they are disables. The work and the stories out of this center are very uplifting and shows what can be done with very little resources. They have nice little gifts and handicrafts for sale which make for a very different souvenir, and you are helping with their finding. The are a Not for Profit Organization.
