Interesting looking Stupa--but nothing special. Take a picture and move on. You can just drive around it also.

Although not mentioned in the info we had for Vientiane, we saw it marked on a map in the Main Street and checked it out. It's not really hidden but has been badly neglected and without knowing why, it was sad to see it in...More

First day in Laos, first day in Vientiane. We started by going to That Dam because of the hidden Geocache (GC3YABZ). Seemed to be a bit off the track since there were no people around. Very calm environment and relaxed place. Those who live big...More

It's a roundabout on a side road, neglected with grass and shrubs growing out of it. Very little to say about it!

Can be seen as you travel along the road...no need to just stop n take photo shot..it's just a big block n called Black Stupa for tourism only..

This was the first Stupa we had seen that wasn't being restored and vegetation allowed to take over. However, It did provide for a great photo opportunity.

Unlike most offerings in Vientiane this Stupa has been left alone. It acts as a roundabout at a junction which we came across by chance. It's right next to the American centre building, you'd think they would would pay for it to be restored..!!!

The black stupa should be included in your walk around the city. It stands out among the commercial and residential buildings of the area- to me, it was an "old touch" in a more modern vibrant town.

I don't know what it is, but there is something enticing about this black stupa. It hasn't been restored, and in some places seems to show signs of burning; it is covered in weeds growing out of it, and its antiquity is beyond doubt. I...More

That Dam (the Black Stupa) is a scenic little That in the heart of town, in the center of a roundabout. In a city where almost nothing is more than a century old, That Dam stands out because it looks almost as old as the...More
