Ethical & Fair - supporting about 150 Mongolian & ethnic Kazakh...

Ethical & Fair - supporting about 150 Mongolian & ethnic Kazakh artisans from all over Mongolia. From the most simple product to the most high end QUALITY is key. Artisans and Mary & Martha make a sustainable living and customers buy quality, useful products at reasonable prices. We are the only shop that buys all its products before we sell because we want to be fair to artisans and we believe in the products - all other shops pay artisans if their products sell.

Mary & Martha was our heart-stopper in Ulan-Bator for so many reasons. Their products are absolutely amazing, of unique quality and so beautiful. Because the aim of our visit was first to learn about Fair-trade, we had the chance to meet with their artisans outside the city, and talked with them. Working with Fair-trade values is an amazing opportunity for... More

Having spent 2 weeks exploring Mongolia and discovering its rich heritage and amazing beauty we were delighted to find Mary and Martha's. The shop is doing an amazing job providing incomes for communities and women throughout Mongolia and showcasing ethically sourced and locally/traditionally made products. The shop stocks a very wide range of products includng clothing, soft furnishings - some... More

Mary & Martha is wonderful! The sole on my sneaker broke almost right in from of their store. I asked them about a place to get it fixed (they were handing out brochures on the sidewalk), and they immediately walked me a couple blocks away to the back of this building and in the basement where there was an unmarked... Buying cashmere in Mongolia is a bit of a no-brainer as it's so cheap compared to the Uk and great quality. The ladies here were very helpful, spoke great English and had a great range of cashmere, yak wool socks and handmade bags. Well worth a visit.

In Ulaanbataar, this is the place to pick up quality gifts. A 'fair trade ' outlet it has a variety of interesting traditional products made by local craftsmen. Woolens are a great buy here, especially the scarves. So also a host of smaller items, all beautifully crafted.

Beautiful collection of traditional Mongolian items. Fair prices and an excellent cause. Shopkeepers speak English and they take credit cards. Helps a lot when you are buying multiple items 😊

We had a good wander around the larger shop and found quite a few things to take back home as gifts, and all at reasonable prices.

It was a real pleasure to visit this shop on a recent trip to Ulaanbaatar and to buy all our souvenirs there. Wonderful products - really beautiful - produced by local people on a 'fair trade' basis. Everyone passing through UB should visit the shop. We can't recommend it too highly. John & Stella, Cardiff, UK

This shop offers a very wide range of textile items. All made by local people and sourced by the shop directly from them. They do not sell in consignment, but purchase out right the items. Some of the charities that benefit by this method of sale are prisoners, who make things to assist their families while serving their term in... More

I was very happy that my friends knew of this store. I like that the store advertises as "Fair & Ethical". There are beautiful quality items, gifts and hand crafts, at reasonable prices, not inexpensive, but much better quality and variety than other places. As knitters, we even found the local varieties of yarn, which we had found limited or... More

Hi NS, Thank you for taking time to do a review and thank you for your kind words - again a real encouragement to staff and artisans alike. Yarns - we are experimenting to try to develop the right products in exotic yak, camel and cashmere for hand knitters and small machine knitters - early days but wanting to have... More
