sA good temple. easy to access. Just opposite to St. Anthony's church. Very close to Mariamman temple, pillyar kovil and Sai Baba temple in the same area - Kotehena. A big temple premises you will enjoy walking around. Main deity is Lord Shiva though all other gods are also present in the temple.

Carved from stone the temple looks spectacular inside, being dimly lit and only allowing shards of natural light through the walls and ceilings which seem to highlight the beauty of the carvings. It's also just a short walk further on eastwards from the Pettah district. Photo is an outside view from behind the temple.

The peaceful temple with cows, granite architecture, very tranquil, is a haven amidst the bustle of the city. The priests are helpful in acquainting foreigners with the culture and architecture of the temple.

This Kovil near St. Anthony's Church is an epitome of ancient Sri Lanka Culture which preserved equity of religions and cultures, that unfortunately is fast disappearing due to short sighted cross eyed, ego driven politicians and Buddhist Clergy. This Kovil, from what I know, was built by JR Jayawardena Family using Indian craftsmen and labour. It is known to have... More

This is a big Hindu temple where everything is made out of stones. We visited here on a Saturday evening, and it was slightly crowded with some worship happening at that time. It felt good to walk barefoot on a stone flooring seeing big carved stone pillars and idols around the temple. Though I have seen similar temples in Southern... More

Amazing temple with amazing architecture. The excellently carved pillars, the peace-fullness inside is amazing. Do make it a point to visit this temple in my every visit to Colombo. You will remember Madurai Temple when you go in there but smaller in size. a Must visit

Magnificent looking temple. It has an Indiana Jones feel to it. We were lucky as they were closing the temple and the guards allowed us to look around. I loved the architecture of the temple and the way natural light comes in like a ray of sunlight making it look amazingly spiritual. Wished we were there during their pray times.... More

A must visit. The interior is very impressive both with architecture and artifacts. Plus it's free. There's a cabin on the garden where you can put your shoes before entering.
