It was once a very good Zoological Garden, but it has been run down. The number of animals were down, and the Elephant show, late in the afternoon was short & the items were cut down & the number of Elephants were reduced. The entrance fees were reasonable for the locals, but was overpriced for the foreign nationals.

We were looking for a place to take visiting friends on their last day in Sri Lanka and it was a mistake. Not only is it quite expensive for foreigners, it was depressingly sad. Some animals looked like they were starving because one could see their ribs, the small cages were in need of repair and many of the cages/attractions... More

I was curious to see how Sri Lanka would treat animals in captivity. I started the visit with a so ridiculously small swimming pool with 2 lonely and bored sea lions who brought me tears. It seems there is a show in the afternoon to entertain people... A brown bear seems waiting to die balancing its body from left to... More

Small zoo but spent an enjoyable morning here. Variety of animals and opportunity to view fairly closely.

I went to the Zoo with my two daughters. There are lot of animals. But feel sad to see that they do not have much space. Place is a bit crowded on public holidays sand during school vacation.Kids will enjoy the animals.

Very large zoo. There's plenty of attractions. Elephant show, seal show and chimpanzee shows are some of the attractions. Besides this there's a special reptile section as well as a bird's section. It's a must see with kids.

We were looking forward to visiting the zoo as we had been there 23 years ago. Unfortunately things did not go well from the start. Admission at the gates stated "foreigner " 2500 rs, "locals" 100 rs, I don't mind paying extra as a tourist but this fee was scandalous, 25 times more !!! On entering the zoo we were... More

We thoroughly enjoyed visiting this zoo - its extensive and features a large variety of animals in a very beautiful setting. Animals appear well cared for. Note that tourists are charged a significantly higher entrance fee compared to locals.

The zoo is well maintained and clean. It is quite spread and has a good variety of animals. Having a few more sitting places would have been helpful.

We were a bit skeptical to visit after reading some comments about the zoo earlier in the day. Decided to go see for ourselves and to be frank the zoo is ok, you can see how beautiful it was initially designed to function as but it has been run-down. We had a great day of fun visiting the different enclosures,... More
