However, to give the sights a fair rating, I have to divorce myself from the constant and aggressive "tourist's welcome." As an American traveling solo, it was clear that I was seen as a bit of an ATM. With... More

The Sulthamanet area is where you will find most of Istanbul's most iconic sights, Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque etc. There are plenty of comfortable and affordable mid range hotels in the area. and a selection or restaurants from simple to elegant. The tram runs through the area and it is only a short walk from the local ferry and boat... More

We went to the blue mosque and it was fascinating. I loved it! We also visited a castle, that I do not remember the name of, but there was a gravesite, and things. Furthermore, we went to yet another castle and saw jewels and diamonds, it was very beautiful!!

Istanbul is the best city in the world. Located between Asia and Europe and its multi cultural. Romantic and authentic place. You can come with your girlfriend and also with your friends. At least you need to visit this city once in your life

It is a civilization before date. As once Napolyon said it could easily be the capital city of the world. You will see and feel original Christianity and also will find the artistic building of Islam religion. You will absolutely see two very important Empire's culture. Bizantion an Ottoman. History and spectacular view together. You should try to visit each... More

Make sure you pack the walking shoes and spend hours getting lost in this area. The Grand Bazaar, walking to Hagia and Blue Mosque are an incredible journey around here. Be sure to try the local treats, as there are plenty.

It has got everything. The architecture, the history, the culture, cosmopolitan, location...lovely. Not easy to finish them all in one day but one can do the palace, both bazaars, aya sophia and blue mosque in one day but just quickly.

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
