This enormous palace was the Imperial residence of Ottoman sultans for almost 400 years. Although much of the palace is not accessible, the daily tours of the Harem are of great interest to tourists.

It is not far from the Blue Mosque and St Sophia. A ticket is required to enter it. A few relics of some prophets can be seen. It offers a beautiful view of the Bosphorus Strait. Expect to spend at least two hours here.

At least 40% of the museum was closed for restoration which could be why we weren't too impressed. The few rooms that were open had beautifully painted tiles but there were no artifacts from the Sultans treasury or possessions to fill up the rooms. The...More

The ticket to the topkapi palace costs 40TL per person. This DOES NOT include the ticket to view the HAREM (royal residence) of the palace. The ticket for the harem costs another 40TLpp. There's a line to purchase the ticket so I would recommend to...More

We went to this because it was on the museum pass we had and wanted to make sure we got our money's worth. Because of that, we also go into the Harem and the Hagia Irene which WOULD NOT have been worth paying for all...More

Mehmet the Conqueror moved into Topkapi Palace—a complex of pavilions, kiosks, kitchens, barracks, and sleeping quarters arranged around a vast courtyard and set on the Seraglio peninsula—in 1453. Succeeding Ottoman emperors followed suit until the 19th century, when royal living quarters were moved to luxurious...More

If you do nothing else in Istanbul, visit the Topkapi. It will give you a great insight into Turkish history; and you'll enjoy the architecture. Be sure to visit the Harem as well. Also, it is probably best using a guide to explain the historical...More

We purchased the full tour with the audio guide. Skip the audio guide! It was worthless. I would have preferred one of Istanbuls certified guides instead. I would recommend them for any museum to give you a deeper level of appreciation for what you are...More

İts one of the Sightseeing Objekts in İstanbul you must see. Near the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. See to the Bosporus like the Ottoman Sultans.

With so many unmissable attractions within a mere
stroll of each other – and all set around the site of
an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an
overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a
prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly
epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the
Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this
relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to

As stated before 40 liras for the palace and 25 liras for the harem. If you have limited time, skip Harem, palace is nicer, but again if no time, else do both. it is worth it.

No animals inside the palace but there are dogs and cats all over Istanbul and "they" co-exist without conflict.
