I really like this district. I feel the soul of Ottoman there. I feel comfortable and happy when I see the historical remains of Ottoman Empire.

Last week, our group of 2 returned to Sultanahmet area for a 2-night stay, as we've done every spring in recent years. This time it felt very quiet, subdued, compared to April 2016... clearly, the large groups of European & Asian tourists were missing, but we were glad for the serenity, and did not miss those busloads of noisy tourists.... Amazing mix of new buildings and old buildings, bustling with tourists. Great transport links, lovely food shops, quaint souvenir shops. Cats and dogs lazing around. Friendly pleasant people. All amenities easily available for tourists

Honestly this place to me was the most fascinating of all the places I have traveled. Istanbul and this place in particular is so rich in history. This is where east and west came together. This city represents the flavors of the world as a whole.

Sister? Miss? Hello! Hello? Excuse me! Lots of random men calling me out as I walked past their stalls. It made me uncomfortable as I walked and had to ignore. The first few times I did respond back and the conversation was always: where are you from? How long you will be here? Come in have a look! We have... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
