Famed architect Sinan built this majestic structure for one of the greatest rulers of the Ottoman Empire. Although this mosque is less ornate, there are many similarities between it and the Hagia Sophia since the same architect was responsible for both.

Large quiet gardens... You can just sit, enjoy the breeze and the green nature, admire the elegant architecture, and reflect. It is surrounded by some restaurants and shops. Don't miss it!

I have been to Istanbul before, but had not visited this Mosque. It is apparently the largest Mosque in Istanbul and is very beautiful, both inside and in the gardens and mausoleums surrounding the Mosque. It is definitely worth a visit. Sue F

While it is beautiful inside, don't go on a hot day. Since you have to wear head and body coverings, it becomes quite uncomfortable in the heat of summer.

A stunning mosque, much quieter than the Blue Mosque. Stunning views across the Golden Horn. Friendly and welcoming guides inside to answer any questions about the mosque or the Muslim faith. A must do on a trip to Istanbul.

This mosque is a little farther away and on a big hill, so it's a nice uphill walk .The courtyard is very pretty and it was nice and windy and just gorgeous to walk around.

I agree with the others who have answered so far. The best decision I made was getting myself a data package as soon as I landed. That way, I could read up on any place when I was there or before going.

Yes, his tomb is there just behind the mosque. Next to his tomb lies also his beloved daughter Mihrimah. His beloved wife Hurrem's tomb is next to him in another building.
