Top ways to experience Beyoglu
The area
Neighbourhood: Beyoglu
Istanbul’s most famous street, pedestrianized Istiklal Caddesi (Independence Avenue), throbs day and night and offers a fantastic array of architectural sights, shops, treats, and throngs upon teeming throngs of people. At the avenue’s northeastern end is expansive Taksim Square, thought by many to be the very heart of the city, with many of Turkey’s most renowned restaurants and some of Europe’s most happening nightlife in close proximity. In striking contrast, Beyoglu’s less trafficked areas – such as the affluent Cihangir and the antiques district of Cukurcuma – exude Old World charm and provide contemplative calm and splendid diversion via an assortment of cozy cafes, attractive boutiques, and quiet lanes.

Even in the off season, it’s hard to move in some streets they’re so crowded. Which really takes away from the enjoyment. It’s also slightly boring as there are less attractions than in the Sultanahmet

Spent a lovely non Christmas few days away and was great to see so many places and people working and glad to see the tourists.
Found some really helpful and pleasant local eateries.
Visited some sites, but I am more of an explorer and the area caters for all.
One thing to note, if you decide to hire a car, beware the driving in turkey is manic and takes getting used to,..all the drivers seem to think car horn is a play thing, emergency vehicles drive with lights constantly flashing and are not let through but chased by other cars

A popular vibrating area, especially in the evenings, especially around Galata Tower and along Istiklal Street.

We went to this area of the city at night, and it was full of people, stores, places to eat. The heart of modern Istanbul.

Beyoglu is full of interesting places but you have to be prepared for a lot of steep uphill/downhill walks.

It was an amazing experience. My boys and I enjoyed our stay. Next time, we will plan better and explore more places. Though we visited sights we wanted to see, there is so much more to explore. We only had 5 days to visit, which is not enough to explore this beautiful city. The boat trip we went on had amazing views and was a smooth experience. We were also going to go on a bus trip but unfortunately did not find the time to do so but will do that next time for sure. The food was amazing when visiting the right places (some places are expensive and not worth it). Firuz diner near the end of the main road was amazing price wise and taste wise.

As last leg of our vacation, my husband and I did a 9 day stint in Istanbul. We booked with Juno Apartments in the Beyoglu district. Which was close to the residential or local part of the city. We were close to public transport, bus stop in Umar Hayyam was 3 min walk away. Istikhlal street also in walking distance. Connection to other modes of transport to Eminunu and all the markets within easy access. On the Sunday , our streets outside were turned into a covered market and all products were as low as a 6th compared to other markets. We were close to mosques as well.
The apartment had a kitchenette, huge bedroom with cupboards and a lounge area. Showers and bathroom was clean and stocked with toiletries. Apartment was cleaned out every day. They also had a laundry room and access to iron and vacuum. I found Beyoglu to be central. In walking distance of Taksim Square (14min walk)
It might not be okay for older or unfit visitors as it is quite hilly and the apartments in the area do not have lifts. Check before you book.
Close by is a Carrefour and a SOK supermarket.

This neighborhood includes the modern areas of Istanbul. It has the Galata Tower, 2 Catholic Churches, Mosques, Shops, Restaurants, Stores selling Turkish Delights and Sweets, Its main shopping street is called Istiklal.

I enjoyed looking at the beautiful facades of some of the buildings here and walking at some of the side streets here. Perhaps, the vibes could be different in the night time in this area.

Love Istiklal Street and Taksim Square. Quite touristy with lots and lots of eaterie, shops and cafes. Can get busy but it's a wide street so doesn't feel crowded. Don't forget to take a picture of the old train.
