We are an Art Gallery and organise Traditional Turkish, Ottoman marbling - Ebru workshops in our Art Gallery in Sultanahmet. Lessons are 2 hours with our local professional teachers from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul.Turkish Paper marbling is a method of aqueous surface design, which can produce patterns similar to marble or other stone, hence the name. You can also draw flower figures which is traditional in Ottoman Art. The things you can capable of painting with Ebru is unlimited. The patterns are the result of color floated on either plain water or a viscous solution known as size, and then carefully transferred to a sheet of paper (or other surfaces such as fabric). This decorative material has been used to cover a variety of surfaces for several centuries. It is often employed as a writing surface for calligraphy, and especially book covers and endpapers in bookbinding and stationery. Part of its appeal is that each print is a unique monoprint.Need a break from the hustle and bustle of tourist life in Istanbul? Come take an art class with us.

A brilliant day and highly recommended. I booked about 5 months in advance for a tutorial and I must say that I was pleased with their responsiveness and helpfulness. I had a double lesson with Bahar. She is very, very good and is a skilled Ebru artist with a great sense of humour. She explained the steps clearly and had... More

I wasn't quite sure what to expect but we had so much fun taking the Ebru class. The instructor led us through the whole process, starting with an easy design to understand how to work with the paint and we worked all the way up to creating flowers! I'm no artist but I am extremely happy with the finished product.... More

The instructor and staff were so friendly, informative and made learning this amazing technique fun and interesting. It has definitely sparked a passion! They provide all the tools and give you real hands-on experience. I would do it again in a heartbeat!

I have wanted to learn about the Turkish Art of Ebru for a long time so went with some friends - and had a blast. We were made to feel welcome, instructions were clear (in English) and we spent a couple of hours creating our individual (master!)pieces of art. Extremely therapeutic and lots of fun.

I had a great time experiencing the ancient art of Ebru. The teacher was very friendly and down to earth.. I recommend booking a class even if you're not into art or painting. Ebru has its own spirit and surely it will be a very unique experience for anyone.

This was our first visit to Istanbul and we wanted something to do besides sight-seeing or shopping, this was a great choice. The staff very friendly, there was no feeling of being rushed. My wife completed several beautiful projects. Located in center of Old City, within walking distance of the major tourist attractions, Great value for money.

I wanted to do something different on my return visit to Istanbul and after poking around Tripadvisor, I found this class and thought it was perfect! It's very interesting to learn the materials involved and then the process. My instructor was very patient, as I'm rather lousy when it comes to anything that involves a paint brush. It was a... I went to this class not knowing what to expect as I have never considered myself artistic. But, on this holiday I wanted to experience new things that I wouldn't normally do. Though I think this is the only time that I would be doing marbling (again not an artistic person), I loved the team over there. They were so... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
