Gorgeous museum setting on the Bosphorus with a lot of interesting, contemporary, mostly Turkish art. It's big and well worth going to. Also had one of my best Istanbul meals in the museum cafe. Only wish that they would let visitors use cameras! I'd like to remember and refer to some of the art I saw there.

Karakoy is not far from historic part of the city, easiest way to come here is by tram, parking is also available. You can see famous turkish artists paintings and also different exhibitions. Museum has a great restaurant just by... More

Museum was cool place with many interesting exhibits. Was not allowed to take pictures, but I still remember some artwork. If you come with your children, don't worry, you can walk and look exhibition easy because they organize some art workshops for them. Also there is library, a lot of books about art waiting for you. For this museum can... More

Like some of the exhibits but very hot walk to get there so didn't take much in! Like the outside installation and then took lift up to the terrace restaurant. Worth going to have a look!

Both the museum and its restaurant should be on every Istanbul travellers itinerary. The restaurant has a lovely terrace right on the waters of the Bosphorus and offers Turkish Italian dishes.

I love museums, I love the restaurants in museums and I love the Museum shops. If you have enough time, a nice thing to do, but if you need to go to a museum, go to the one in your home town. A lovely installation, beautiful photography exhibit. If you are short on time, give this a miss!

Great opportunity to get a glimpse into Turkish modern history of contemporary art while you strolling around Istanbul. It also has a nice shop offering many gift choices for the art lovers. Definitely a highlight of our stay there!

Staying in Karakoy

Neighbourhood Profile
Sitting pretty with an age-old air about it, Karakoy is situated on the European side of the Bosphorus at the mouth of the Golden Horn. Perhaps the city’s most historically significant area, it’s currently one of the most happening parts of town as well. Here street vendors and alfresco fish restaurants line the banks of the Horn where the views of major attractions across the water rival Karakoy’s own key attractions, such as the iconic 14th century Galata Tower and the Museum of Modern Art. A major hub for local and international waterborne traffic, Istanbul’s commercial and maritime heritage remains as relevant and evident as ever in Karakoy. Commuter ferries mingle with luxury cruise liners at its busy port, ensuring a continuously cosmopolitan flow of people..
