all the tourist guide people in town told us not to visit, but i was determined. on my way there i ran into two architecture students from america and they told me it was in their top 5 modern museums. it was only 2 floors but i spent 2 hours there and had to rush through the end before closing... Not the easiest place to find or get to, but its well worth the effort. A Fab Space right on the Bosphorus. A great selection of work. The cafe, although expensive, did good chips and had nice views. The only problem i had was with the high security getting in. X-Ray machine and metal detector. A bit extreme? Once inside,... More

A very nice modern museum with a really interesting collection of contemporary art. It is located in an old warehouse right next to the Bosporus strait and it is easily assessable by tram. But the best thing is actually not the museum but their splendid restaurant where you can sit on the first floor balcony with a fantastic view over... More

We were a diverse group in terms of our artistic knowledge. We all had a terrific time enjoying a wide variety of very interesting exhibits. We have been to the major modern art galleries in NYC and Washington , and this was every bit as good. The location makes for the main part of a pleasant afternoon tour on the... More

Went there on a cold rainy Spring day. Really impressed Blythe quality, imagination and creativity on show. I thought it was far more interesting than most modern ,British art over the last few years. If I go back to Istanbul this gallery would be high on my list of must-sees.

We were pleased to find this modernist gem of a museum in a city full of historic treasures. The restaurant inside topped off a wonderful morning learning about Turkish art and history. Do not miss this place if you have time. You can go to Aya Sophia and Topkapi to see antiquities but why not learn about current trends in... More

Worth the trip if you have time & like modern art. There were some odd pieces. The restaurant is good and it has nice views, so a good place for lunch before or after a museum stroll. It is awkward to get into as it is designed for cars to get in, not pedestrians so you have to walk through... More

Staying in Karakoy

Neighbourhood Profile
Karakoy
Sitting pretty with an age-old air about it, Karakoy is situated on the European side of the Bosphorus at the mouth of the Golden Horn. Perhaps the city’s most historically significant area, it’s currently one of the most happening parts of town as well. Here street vendors and alfresco fish restaurants line the banks of the Horn where the views of major attractions across the water rival Karakoy’s own key attractions, such as the iconic 14th century Galata Tower and the Museum of Modern Art. A major hub for local and international waterborne traffic, Istanbul’s commercial and maritime heritage remains as relevant and evident as ever in Karakoy. Commuter ferries mingle with luxury cruise liners at its busy port, ensuring a continuously cosmopolitan flow of people..
