Wow! Amazing architecture on the side of the mountain. How did they do this? Fun walking down the stairs, imagining what it would have been like in Herod's time.

This is beyond my imagination! When Harod wanted a “get away” he cut no corners. In a desert, on a high plateau of 1000 feet, no water to be seen except the Dead Sea and so hard to get to. The perfect place for a...More

Herod had built a summer palace at Herodium, a mountain in the wild after having won the battle against the Parthian. The climb to see the ruins Canberra pretty strenuous and is not at all a summer activity!!!

This is part of the Masada experience, you don't need to walk up, it was quite hot at the top ( March ) and you can easily get heat exhausted just walking around to see everything at the top so I suggest you take the...More

What a View Herod had !!!! Amazing place worth of going down and up from the top of Masada. It can be very windy there so be careful with your hats.

It's definitely worth the steep hike on the stairs along the cliffside to see this part of the site. Not that there's anything that different or amazing down there, but it lets you explore and see more of Masada. It's about 10 stories worth of...More

This is not really a separate site called Herod's Western Palace. It's Masada. Herod is part of the history of the place, but hardly the major player.

Herod the Great's western palace in his desert fortress of Masada gave him all the comforts of home. You can still see the remains of the large mosaic floor and the luxurious three tiered living space--plus he had a swimming pool in his desert hideaway!...More

Take the extra steps down and you won't regret it. The western palace is gorgeous and offers a slightly different view from above. Some people actually miss it. After you finish visiting the main structure (commander's room, storage room, bathhouse etc), close to the exist...More

We really enjoyed our visit here. The views were great, but the structures constructed on top of the plateau are amazing. The history of Masada is also amazing and worthy of a movie.
