This place was highly recommended and while it was interesting, there is very little information about the items on display as you walk round which detracted from the overall experience. The building is stunning and great to explore. The items downstairs including the bodies was interesting!

It is one of the best archeological museums I have ever visited. There are three floors with precious artefacts from all the periods of Lebanese history. Everything is nicely organised, there are descriptions in Arabic, English and French. We spent here around 1,5h, I wish we had even a little more as collection is really impressive. It was our last day in Lebanon so that was a good summary of our stay,as we had already visited many sites where the objects had been found.

Actually I went with my Mom and I am not a teen nor a child. We like to know more about the country we are in and there is no better place than the national museum. We were impressed and only one thing didn't go well. The hours of visiting are not accurate here and the museum closed at 2 pm as a result we couldn't see everything at one time.

I loved the Mational Museum of Beirut. It helps you so much to understand the rich history of Phoenia. The wonderful sarcophagus of Ahiram, of Achilles, the Ford collection of sarcophagi; the Abduction of Europa mosaic, Tyre hypogeum, bull protome, Eshmun Tribune are a few of many interesting objects of this museum. I visited the museum before going to the different cities and archeological sites. Personally I would have visited the museum after to look at the exhibits with more knowledge.

Main archeology museum in the country, whose collection began to be collected after the First World War. One of the most complete and respected in the world! It was destroyed during the Lebanese Civil War (1975-1991) and its works were preserved by the construction of reinforced concrete around each of them. The idea of the museum director at the time was brilliant, as he managed to preserve the history of a country!!! With the lack of electricity in the country, air conditioning does not work: very hot!!!

beautiful artefacts to be seen. It is a must to visit, being in Beirut, especially if you will go to the historic sites later. Interesting information. Very professional restored after 1995, don't forget to see the movie about the restoration.

Don't miss the National Museum in Beirut. We walked from Place des Martyrs to the museum. It is a well designed museum and I particularly admired the fantastic mosaics. Don't miss the short film showing how the museum and its content were saved during the civil war. The shop sells good taste souvenirs.

The National Museum of Beirut is one of the Must visits in Lebanon.
The museum has very rare and old pieces of antique and jewelries. It was rennovated several times due to war then natural disasters (flood) but they were able to preserve all their antique items.
There is a very interesting history and path behind this museum worth visiting and exploring.

We spent one hour in the museum, but it was far too short. The richness of the collection is stunning. The published guide is excellent and gives much more information about the artifacts than on the labels (a must for history buffs, even if you only read it afterwards)

What a rich place is full of history, I got extremely in love and felt like a child again doing a tour. I've always loved history and seeing some things live from what I've studied or some I had no idea, was super enriching. I recommend

I'm planning a trip to Beirut around New Years. Does anybody know if the Museum is closed both New Year's eve and New Years Day? The website only says it's closed on holidays but doesn't specify.
If so is this the same for all museums in the city?
Written May 11, 2016
New Year's day is official holiday, no museum would be open on such a day. Good time to visit Lebanon.
