It's a very historical place in the city..so do read about it and have a look. Unfortunately the surrounding development seems to have neglected to take this area into consideration when building ,no overall planning...hope someone changes that

This used to be a landmark of great symbolism, life, and beauty. Now it's surrounded with dirt and parking lots.

The bullet-riddle statue is thought-provoking (even if those thoughts are "This seems worryingly Soviet"), but it's plonked in the middle of an area of ground that's fallen into disuse and had nothing done to. We barely even noticed the Roman ruins at the other end. It should be the focal point of the city centre, what with the main mosque... More

A lot of commercial buildings in the surrounding streets, still no concept for the Place de Martyrs. Carpark established in the immediate neighborhood. A little sad.

This is a very symbolic historic monument and pretty much reflects the state of the country. You will surely see some tent pitched by some political group prostesting something.

While the history and significance of the statue are impressive and noteworthy, the fact that it's in a VERY busy traffic area that's undergoing major reservations makes it difficult to see and experience properly. Still, worth a look...

While given the opportunity to get closer to this statue, we were content to admire from afar. There is a substantial archaeological excavation nearby which diminishes the impact of this memorial statue and the entire area has an unkempt feel. Take a photo and move on!

You can still see bullet holes in the statues that remind one that this was the vibrant center of town and much of the fighting during the civil war. Nearby Roman ruins testify for the important history of this place, and I will the unique character and characters of the old souks that are now gone.

Quite sad how this old monument is covered with graffiti, surrounded with barbed wire, and in the middle of a huge parking lot and a highway. Wish more could be done to beautify this area

yet a must to see. As the guidebooks says; this place is known for huge gatherings. A lot of traffic around the area; be careful.
