It's pretty but not much to see as it is all gated up. There is a fort behind to see also but you can't go in it either.

We were in Muscat for the day from a cruise ship, unfortunately it was a Friday so pretty much everything was closed so we just walked all the way along the coast until we got down to the palace. The front has beautiful gardens and the back has huge guns! You cannot go inside but it is not difficult to... More

We stopped by the Al Alam Royal Palace on a recent excursion while in Muscat, Oman. We didn't get to go inside (not surprising), but it was interesting to see the "official" residence of Sultan Qaboos. The architecture was a little different than I would have expected from a royal palace, and very colorful. The gardens around it were beautiful,... More

You can look from outside and that takes a few minutes - otherwise it's all heavily manicured and a bit boring actually. The corniche over the hill is much more fun.

Ok for some photo stop.. Noting much to write home about. No mention about the history of the place and what purpose it serves...

You aren't able to enter the palace, but you can take pictures from the outside. Make sure you walk around to the back of the palace and you can see the forts as well.

Don't miss the attractive, colourful Al Alam palace - it's definitely worth seeing if you are in the area with its attractively manicured gardens and fort. Unfortunately you can only look through the railings and take photos - no visits inside. We understood that this is the Sheikh's official palace with a guest house and not one of his homes.... More

You can't go into this palace, but it's grounds outside are beautiful and well manicured. I was on a red bus tour. If you can't get on another bus back to town, the service bus is for very little and the drivers polite.. Ask for tho souk and you are back in town.
