- Johnski29369 contributionsMust seeWow, this place is incredible. It’s unfortunate that some visitors have absolutely no idea how to behave or dress in a place of worship. We visited early in the morning and it was full of coach tours that had no English speakers in them. Far Eastern tourists thought it was appropriate to photo graph my sleeping baby in her pushchair ( she is very very Scandinavian looking) luckily some members of staff stepped in to prevent us being mobbed. I was shoved and pushed and people climbed over the stroller and tried to force me to move the stroller. Staff were very very apologetic and we were able to enjoy what is to see her as it is very beautiful. Please remember to dress appropriately when visiting and this is not a place for selfies it’s a place of worship. I wish the bus tours didn’t come here or at least the tour guides were read the riot act. By all means come here it is worth it. Sharpen your elbows and keep your kids close. It’s not a place that well mannered and well intentioned people come and they just want to take photos for Instagram.Visited December 2019Travelled with familyWritten January 1, 2020
- katewilson02Melbourne, Australia9 contributionsAbsolutely stunningThis is 100% a MUST see in Abu Dhabi. What an amazing structure. We visited in January (Winter) so not too busy and in the late afternoon to see the sunset. Sunset beautiful on the Mosque. The inlays infloor and on the columns are so intricate. The glass windows are unique. Just the size of it is so impressive. We LOVED this experience. There is no fee to visit and women can receive a free (quite cute!) cover up. Be mindful and respectful of the culture and religion. Also staff very friendly and willing to have a chat about the Mosque. Extremely organised to get in and out of the area via underground pedestrian tunnels and taxis everywhere to take you home. You MUST go!Visited January 2020Written January 21, 2020
- GauravKGoyalGurugram (Gurgaon), India338 contributionsStrongly recommend to take their cultural tourSince it is a religious place, please wear appropriate clothes. In any case, women are provided with their traditional dress (free of charge) and they have to keep their head covered with the hood attached to the dress. Go at dusk for the 5pm tour and see the lights come on. It takes 20-30 from main gate till mosque (getting ticket, security check etc). No food will not be allowed to be taken inside An audio guide can be obtained after submitting a photo ID card (interestingly, they donot accept passport on the ground that it is precious and if one forgets to recollect it, there may be problem). I will strongly recommend taking their complementary cultural tour (Sunday – Thu 10:00 am - 11:00 am - 5:00 pm – please recheck the timing on the mosque website). They will not only explain may things about the mosque, but will also take you inside the prayer hall which is not otherwise possible. I am sure all tour guides are good, but our tour guide Shamma was fabulous. She explained everything so clearly and politely and answered all queries raised by the group.Visited January 2020Written January 20, 2020

Visited the Sheikh Zayed Mosque recently. It is undoubtedly one of the architectural marvels of the world. Been to this wonderful place a few times in the last 15 years. Special thanks to Ms Zainab who took us on a free, guided cultural tour. We were provided with some interesting insights to the design of the Grand Mosque and local culture. A must see for any visitors to the UAE.

Our visit to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in August 2023 was nothing short of awe-inspiring.
Stepping into the mosque felt like entering a world of pure serenity and architectural marvel. The grandeur of its design and the intricate details left us in absolute wonder.
The cleanliness and organization of the premises were exemplary, ensuring a peaceful and respectful atmosphere for all visitors.
Our visit was a humbling and spiritually enriching experience, and it's a must-visit for anyone traveling to Abu Dhabi. This mosque is a true testament to human creativity and devotion.

We were lucky enough to join a free 10am tour with Mahmoud where somehow no one else joined so myself and my partner had an entirely private tour of the Mosque. Mahmoud was extremely friendly and knowledgable and he truly made the experience remarkable. Highly recommend the free guided tours and visiting such an outstanding and important piece of the culture in the UAE. Thank you Mahmoud!

I visited last Thursday and attended the free guided tour at 10AM. Myself and husband were the only ones who joined the tour so we ended up receiving a private tour of the mosque from Mahmoud. Mahmoud was very professional and friendly throughout the visit. He drew our attention to so many of the beautiful elements of the mosque, enlightening us with his vast knowledge of the architecture and history of it. He was also able to answer all questions of the many questions we had. I would highly recommend visiting the beautiful Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and joining one of the free guided tours. Mahmoud was a great tour guide and a real credit to the mosque.

A fascinating insight into the traditions and beliefs of Islam, provided to us by our passionate guide Miss Mona. She is very kind, intelligent and polite person.
The mosque is overwhelming in its grandeur, but the intricacy of the detail continued over such a grand scale is breathtaking. Definitely a must on any visit to Abu Dhabi.
Special thanks to Miss Mona. (Review From Tourguide)🙂

If there was an admission price it would be easy to say that this mosque had been only built to make money. However, as with so many things in the wonderful UAE, it is free to enter. That’s were the beauty of it stops, although it is an amazing and beautiful structure. I entered from the underground car park straight into a glitzy shopping mall which was the last thing I expected to see in a place of worship. Much to my surprise the first shop I saw was Mothercare, a UK brand which ceased retailing in UK a few years ago! Hundreds of metres of travelling walkways and escalators that wouldn’t look out of place at Dubai airport take you to the entrance to the mosque itself.
Having visited other mosques previously in UAE I expected this experience to be the same, how wrong was I? At other mosques you take your shoes off at the door and wander leisurely round the inside and outside in near silence soaking up the ambience and admiring the architectural features and other items of note. At Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque it is a conveyor belt of people being herded by tour guides or mosque staff round a predetermined route, with very little time to stop and admire anything. It certainly is not peaceful with the endless chatter of visitors and louder voices of guides and there is nothing leisurely about the way you are moved on from place to place. Much of the mosque is cordoned off with ropes so you get to see very little, apart from the main chandelier and carpet – from a safely roped off distance at the designated photo stops. As you leave you get herded onto a shuttle bus that takes you back to the start where you exit down the escalator. Don’t expect to wander in the gardens or admire the glass like pools shown in the online photos. It is a very pretty building but it feels like it has been created by Disney to attract visitors, rather than a place of worship.

A spectacular place. We reached there around 10 AM. The place was alomst empty which was great as it gave us ample chance to enjoy the mosque. It got really crowded around 11 AM.
Every hour, there is a free guided tour of the mosque, and we were lucky to be accompanied through the guide by Maha. She was very knowledgable, friendly and spoke very good English.
The level of lavishness you will experience in this place is unprecedented in a religious establishment. The marble floors and columns with precious stones carved into them are amazing. The chandliers are breathtaking with their colors and size.
Overall, a must visit attraction in Abu Dahbi.
Be ware of the dress code before going, however, they do offer covers before entering the mosque for men and women, but you will have to return them afterwards.

An amazing architectural work of art, beautifully designed and executed. A tribute to the sacred world, a massive union of beauty in all details, the flowered mosaics make you feel the beautiful of the natural world and it elevates the spirit. Overwhelming beauty.
As a top tourist attraction it is crowded, therefore one in the tour cannot free roam and has to follow the designated path and flow, but still can enjoy the beautiful place. A place one can visit in different times and occasions.

you can take a free guided tour for better experience. Just ask at the reception. The tour lasts 40-60 minutes and includes a story about the Mosque and how it was built and decorated. you dont have to pegister.

I did not see anything to suggest this. It is possible that some tour guides or companies MIGHT have provided for their clients. I wouldn't risk it. If you know the cultural / religious requirements, as a responsible traveler, you respect them. Pack a pair of socks for your sandals, a pair of long pants, a long sleeved shirt that doubles as a jacket and a scarf. It's not that hard.
